Cheap winter sun destinations from Switzerland

We're looking to get some winter sun late January. Where's cheap to travel to from Switzerland at this time of year?

Also, can anyone recommend some cheap holiday websites in Switzerland that offer deals?

Egypt's probably going to have a few bargains.

Canary islands are always popular; I know several people who went there during the Autumn school break.

Easyjet to Alicante (flights from both Basel and Geneva) are you usually cheap at this time of year. Likewise you should be able to secure a good deal on a hotel room or holiday villa if you shop around a bit.

There is still plenty of sun in January. The sea may be a bit on the cold side, unless you're the tough sort (some people do still bath mind you). I generally find many of the resorts have much more charm off season.

Easyjet is the best idea... depends from which city you fly you can find convenient destination.

Both Aldi and Lidl have holiday brochures with cheap holidays after the checkouts.

But Winter sun is not cheap, and you need to go further than the Mediterranean sea for sunbathing weather.

Re: Cheap winter sun destinations from Switzerland

It's one of those questions which is impossible to reply to without more information. How warm? Do you want to swim, walk, shop??? Do you want quaint and natural, stylish, busy and brash, or busy and classy?

South Tenerife, Los Christianos and co is my idea of a nightmare- but it is warm, sunny, excellent Hôtels and shops, etc.

Re: Cheap winter sun destinations from Switzerland

as a safe option Canary Islands seems to be it for high temperatures, but a quick google search maybe not so hot.

Somewhere else possible similar temperature is Algarve in Portugal, depending if you can find suitable reasonable flights to Faro airport. do easyjet go there this time of year from Switzerland?

I do not know of any websites for Switzerland. Only many supermarkets have holidays listed in their free literature, but I notice as we no longer get junk post but picked up Denner thingie from their shop no holidays listed at the last pages, so probably will be listed after the Xmas holidays.

As I noticed you are from UK, if you have UK address you can use for the booking, you might choose to book your accommodation through a UK website. i.e. flights and accommodation booked separately.

Somewhere I haven not yet been, the Carribean seem to have reasonable weather, but no idea of flight times or prices, but maybe an option.

Ah yes, those holiday brochures in Aldi and Lidl - tempting, but, has anyone ever been on one? Taking a chance isn't my sort of thing nowadays.

And yes, Even the South of Spain or North Africa doesn't really offer warm winter days. First stop is the ever-present spring in the Canaries.

Re: Cheap winter sun destinations from Switzerland

Many people are recommending the Canaries, but just be aware that, depending on which island, a fair percentage of the annual rainfall can fall during January.

My experience relates specifically to my time in Tenerife, over 25 years ago, so may vary in the other islands, and weather patterns could have changed, as well.
