| | Getting Married - Advice Needed!
Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here but really needing your help!
Myself and my fiancé have decided to get married in September. We currently live in Walenstadt (little town situated at the beginning of the Walensee) and haven't got a clue as to where to tie the knot!
I was hoping that you all could recommend some nice places either in Zurich or somewhere between Walenstadt and Zurich. I've googled "places to get married" already but have only seen wedding planner sites (which are outwith our price range!).
Help greatly appreciated |

When we where getting married we drove around every sunday looking at different areas, and churches until we found 1 we liked. Everbodys idea of a nice area, or church varies. We got married in Rorschach in a beautiful church, you are not to far from me i live near St.Gallen, if you want to get together then you as much advice as i can, and try, and help you.

Hi Clairey
My wife and I got married in Meersburg, in August 2006, on the east coast of the Bodensee, in Germany. We hired rooms in the Neues Schloss, a 1700's great house. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neues_Schloss_(Meersburg)
The link doesn't do the place justice, p.m. me if you want more details.
We hired the whole ground floor and enormous terrace overlooking the lake for about 250 euros.
1. It was much, much cheaper than anything in Switzerland.
2. It is very close to Friedrichshafen airport, Ryan-air flies into here from the UK and Ireland, which was useful for us.
3. There is a beautiful baroque chapel attached to the Schloss, which you can hire.
4. The catering was excellent.
5. The party went on until 3:30 am and no-one called the police / started washing up.
6. When asking for things to be arranged in a certain way / for compromises to be made, we were met with a very enthousiastic teutonic, "I shall see what can be done!", which made a nice change from the Swiss "No, that is absolutely impossible."
7. Meersburg itself is geared up for tourism, there are hundreds of great, cheap hotels in the town itself or in the neighboring villages, the tourist information branch were happy to let me have about 50 copies of the hotel listings.
I know a local guy who acted as our wedding planner, I could probably put you in touch with him.
Good luck,
Jim

Lob: Yes, we had planned to do the same as Sutter and have the civil ceremony first and then the English blessing the next day
Sutter: Thank you for the tip! We don't want to have a big wedding by any means, probably a maximum of 20 people there. It would be a civil ceremony that we'd like to have but I'm not sure if we can have a non-religious ceremony in a Swiss church? Thank you also for the offer to meet up, I've not long had my first baby though I will definitely keep it in mind!

Thank you SO MUCH for this!!! The place looks beautiful and, in all honesty, exactly what I would love to have. I am amazed that it was so reasonable for you to hire and hope that it won't be priced too much more now.
If you would put me in touch with the guy who planned your wedding I would be ever so grateful.
Thank you again for your response, it's definitely going on our list!!!

My husband and I had a civil ceremony in the Zurich Town Hall. If you haven't been there, you should stop by and take a look. It is gorgeous.
What's even better is the actual place where the ceremony takes place: stained glass windows, red leather sofas, beautiful furniture. Simple. Not pricey. Perfect for the two of us.
We spent our money on the party afterwards.... |

Just a warning: The Stadthaus is currently being renovated. Weddings take place in Verwaltungszentrum Werd, a modern building, all details at http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/internet...n_zuerich.html
As far as I know, you have to have the civil ceremony at a Standesamt, but maybe someone knows of a particularly nice one that is not under construction...
Have a great time
Idgie

Am interested in hearing anyone's experience with organizing a civil wedding in Zurich if neither one of you are an EU or Swiss resident. I am American/boyfriend is Canadian and we are interested in having a civil ceremony here in Zurich before the religious ceremony in Italy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated because as I have found out all the Swiss websites are in German, all the forms are in German and it will take me weeks and weeks to figure out what it says. : )
Thank you.

| | Wedding Advice (Zurich)
Hello there,
I am British/Swiss and recently got engaged. I am trying to plan my wedding in Zürich for next year, however do not know where to start when it comes to finding different services.
If anyone can give me some advice on the following areas (incl recommended websites) I would be so grateful: - Bridal Bouquets, Corsages and Buttons Holes (Which companies should I try? How much should I expect to pay for a bridal bouqet and the extras?)
- Wedding Hair (Any ladies out there who can do this? Do they come to your home/hotel? How much should I expect to pay?)
- Wedding Make-Up (Any ladies out there who can do this? Do they come to your home/hotel? How much should I expect to pay?)
- Horse n Carriage (Where? Prices?)
- Bridesmaid Dresses (Where can you buy these in Zurich?)
- Registry Office (How do I register? How much does it cost? How long does it take?)
- Ceremony/Blessing (Where can I find a vicar/priest who will "bless us" at a short 45min ceremony not in a church?)
- Swiss Wedding Traditions (Are there any I should know about to incl in my wedding?)
...and if anyone has any other wedding advice, I would love to receive it!!!
THANK YOU again for your help I hope someone can assist me!

there's at least three bridal/formal shops around Hauptbahhoff - they are probably not cheap!
