Duration of customs clearance
 

I am ordering a parcel from the UK that costs 63 GBP, including shipping. This translates to 78.54 CHF, which naturally incurs extra fees at customs.

My question is: how much time will it take to receive my parcel, from the time it arrives at Zurich airport?
Do I have to first pay the import fees and then receive it?

If I am correct, the extra charges will be:

• 6.28 CHF for the 8% VAT
• 18.- CHF as processing fee, from a non-neighboring country
• 12.- CHF for postage fees

It might take about 4 days & add 28 to whatever you have calculated.

Thank you very much for you swift reply! :) So I guess, I will be sent the bill, pay for it, and then the goods will be forwarded.
But where does this extra 28.- CHF come from? :confused:

It depends what is in the box, who shipped it and with what carrier.

I got charged 28 francs "import fee" by UPS the day before yesterday on goods valued 15 francs. Just saying whatever you think the value is going to be (as in nothing) they'll stuff you with something extra. They'll either ask for cash on delivery when they arrive at your door so have some ready as opposed to having to run around trying to find some & stealing it out of your kids pocket money purse as you have no cash, or they will send you a bill a few weeks later when you thought you'd got away without being taxed. Depends on the delivery service.
