Travelling with baby

Just wanted to let some of you know that if your last name is different from your child and you are travelling with the child, you should always bring the child's birth certificate to show that you are the parent. Otherwise, the passport control will send you back home. Experienced.

Re: Travelling with baby

We've never had any problem, my wife's name is very different from my daughters' name, (aged 6) they both travel on Swiss passport with no problem...

It's quite common here for the wife NOT to take her husbands name when the marry but the kids take the husbands' name.

I think it must have been for some other reason

Re: Travelling with baby

Might be because you were travelling without your spouse/partner? They may have thought you were trying to leave the country with the child without the other parent's permission.

Rules on names when getting married/having kids are here:

Re: Travelling with baby

Make sure your child knows their 'name' too. We've always used a shortened version of one of our sons' names.

One of ours had an expired ID card. When the U.K. border control at Calais read out his full name from the card and asked him whether that was his name, he shook his head and said no!

That took some explaining - especially as he looked nothing like his photo as two or three years when they're young makes a massive difference.
