Sharing experience - Expatriation in Geneva

Good morning everyone!

I'm writing to all of you today for a specific very important purpose ...
I would like to share with you, some of your personal experiment on your expatriation in Geneva like:
-If this was simple?
-What were biggest problems encountered?
-How this happened?
-If you have used the services of a Relocation Agency?
....
I would like to know, what were difficulties encountered and what were things you have learned or enjoyed from your move experience ...

Thank you in advance for your consideration and have a very nice day!! I hope to have the pleasure of reading messages from you very soon :-)

Re: Sharing experience - Expatriation in Geneva

In fact, it's for my personnal information ...

Let me explain: it's not for a school project, but I work actually in Geneva and I'm thinking about maybe relocate myself ... But I'm little bite worried and not so sure so, I want to weigh up the pros and cons ...

And I must admit, I'm woman so ... I ask myself so many questions about problems, events, what might help me ...!!

And Annecy is around the corner of Geneva so easy to check it all out in person.

Looks like a typical MBA or HR edu project to me...especially if one finds it plastered on various expat fora.

But I am a woman so...my mind likes to ask itself (and internet) questions

Annecy is hardly around the corner it is an hour from Geneva, all going well and without taking into consideration the morning/evening traffic rush hours

She already works in Geneva. So I think she knows what it's like.

Well, as you give your location as Annecy I think you've already got all the info you need since you've already done it.

In fact, I would prefer direct interactions, but if my approach is problematic ...I will go back hide myself under my duvet !

And to be honest, I'm from Annecy, but currently lived in Albertville (approximately one hour and half from Geneva and I'm tired ...) Thank you, dear ex-bf ...

And no ... not to an edu project: I completed my MBA-RH one year ago so ...

Re: Sharing experience - Expatriation in Geneva

Now then, did you actually read through the forum? There is a lot of information already shared.

And as Albertville is not so far from Geneva (you work there donīt you?), why not tour Geneva to see if there are areas where youīd want to live.

Yes, I know where Albertville is, been to one of the plants not far from there :-)

If you are not willing to read up on the topic yourself, we must conclude that you are not serious about it.

Then give us correct info to start with rather than leave us working on erroneous assumptions. There's a big difference between travel from Annecy and Albertville.

Frankly I now don't really know what you're asking. If you should move from Albertville to Annecy, well that would cut the commute time. Or are you asking how someone moved from an EU country to Switzerland? As you're an EU national who's already working here that's pretty easy, apart from finding accommodation. Once you've done that you simply take your employment contract to the commune admin office and apply to have your G permit changed to a B one.

Accommodation may be the tricky part. Geneva is difficult for finding accommodation as there are alway dozens of people chasing available properties.

Re: Sharing experience - Expatriation in Geneva

Moving to somewhere like Saint Julien or Ferney-Voltaire might be a good compromise, a lot of new blocks of apartments have been built in both towns and it might be easier to find somewhere suitable there.

From St. Ju getting into central Geneva is easy (the D bus goes from the centre every ten minutes or so, with the tram extension due by 2021). I'd expect Ferney-Voltaire to be similarly linked, by the F and Y I think.

Re: Sharing experience - Expatriation in Geneva

I have five minutes to waste, so here goes.
It is beyond my comprehension that anyone with intelligence could imagine that 'sharing information' (in English this means giving as well as taking) with a bunch of anonymous aliens, will be much assistance in judging ones own situation without knowing the background behind the replies.
Longbyt expatriated (I love it!) to Basel -
The move was simple.
The Swiss I had contact with were friendly.
I wasn't from an EU country.
I had no 'qualifications'.
I had a Swiss friend but no other connections with the country.
I spoke basic German.
I found accommodation, a job and got a permit with no problems at all.
I didn't use a relocation firm.
I enjoyed it.
I still do.

And what good would that information do anyone?
