Bridesmaid/Wedding dress alterations - recommendations in Zuri ?

Hello all,

I wonder if anyone has had experience with Bridal alterations and could recommend somewhere to go in the Zurich area.

I am a bridesmaid for a wedding in the USA, and the bride bought the dresses there and is sending mine to Switzerland so I may have it fitted. I figured someone here would be able to give a recommendation based on experience.

Thanks for the help.

Is this still en vogue in the US? Bridesmaids in unbecoming dresses and colors? Vividly remember my brothers wedding in West Virginia ;-) And a closetfull of weird costumes at my roommates closets in NYC. They once paraded them and it was a hoot!

You might try and ask if you can book and pay a seamstress from a bridal shop in Zurich.http://www.maretouche.ch/schneiderei.html might also be just right.

Hope your dress is lovely - and have fun!

Do you speak good German? I was really impressed with alteration work, both on quality and price, by Mr. Sener in Oerlikon, but I don't know if he speaks English. It's a dry cleaner and tailor combined, doesn't look fancy but he is quick and really knows his stuff, he used to work in Haute Couture. Nice chap too who is honest about the feasibility of your wishes.

In case anyone else needs the info.

I went to S. Sener at the recommendation of Kittster.

I am lucky that the dress only needed to be shortened so I'm not sure what else he would be capable of, but my experience there shows that he is quite skilled. The finish on my dress is perfect. I couldn't be more pleased.

If you need more extensive alterations he would definitely be worth visiting and asking. He doesn't speak English but he was very patient with my beginner German and double checked everthing with me in case of miscommunication.

Prices are also very reasonable. Cost 48 CHF in total.

I definitely recommend him!

You have no idea how pleased I am to hear this - Mr. Sener doesn't have a website like others do, so it is great that positive word of mouth still does the job, he really does deserve it. I discovered his place when I lost a lot of weight a while ago (sadly found it again) and had to have numerous items altered. I found him to be friendly but always professional, diligent and skilled (he also explained why an alteration I suggested was not ideal and proposed an alternative that was much better), so I gladly recommend him.
