borderfree.com

Has anyone used Borderfree.com for shopping from the US?

When you go to checkout at any store there it says:"This order total is 100% guaranteed. There will be no additional charges due upon receipt."

However, I'm still a bit reluctant and worried I'll need to pay additional Swiss Customs.

Does anyone have any personal experience?

Re: borderfree.com

If you opt to pre-pay the duty/taxes then that's it. If you don't then you may have to pay those on delivery. From the website:

"Are there any additional costs that will be due upon receipt of my order?

At checkout, you may be presented with options to either prepay duties and taxes or to pay duties and taxes on delivery. If you choose to prepay duties and taxes, the order total presented at checkout is the exact amount you’ll be billed by Borderfree, and there will be no additional costs due upon delivery. If you choose to pay duties and taxes on delivery, you will be required to pay these fees to the shipping carrier when you receive the order."

Amazon do a similar thing for some stuff shipped to Switzerland. If you don't have to pay the Swiss Customs duty after all then they refund you that part of your purchase cost.

Yes. If you prepay the taxes, no additional charge. At least, I've never had any.

Re: borderfree.com

I've used it several times, no problems.

So far it has ended up being less expensive than going through Swiss customs.

ETA:

Added benefit is that the package actually gets delivered.

When ordering from stores in the UK where I have to go through a shipper who goes through Swiss customs a number of shipments have ended up stuck 'somewhere' with the retailer blaming the shipper who blames Swiss customs who blames the retailer's documentation who blames the shipper... ad nauseam.

So far all packages sent from BorderFree have actually arrived.

Re: borderfree.com

I've been shopping several times from JCPenney and received my goods from the US without paying any additional duties. I usually order for ~ US$200 and shipping adds addition US$ 40-50 to the merchandise. So for me it works great.
