| | Where to get some steel plate?
I need 4 x 100mm x 1500m and 3 x 100mm x 1500mm thin steel plate. 1 or 2mm thick.
Any ideas where you can get steel cut to size? Or where you can buy off the shelf bits where it might be about the right size and good enough?

Unless someone has recommendations, I think I'll just nip down the road and ask at our local metalworks. Should have thought of that before posting.

If you just want a rectangle, try https://www.haeuselmann.ch/ They'll cut to size, and they've a shop in Basel.
IIRC they also have a fingerbrake, so you can even have them do folds.
1mm in those sizes is going to be a bother to transport without damage.

I'm not really au-fait with the properties of steel. What depth would you recommend? 3mm? More? It needs to be stiff.

A 100 x 1500mm strip of 1mm stock is no problem to transport if you can roll it up, but if you put a fold in it to give it some longitudinal rigidity then the corners will bend every time you bump into something during transport.

I get my electric/electronic supply from eBay. I just checked "metal work" section and found: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...+1500&_sacat=0
Understandably, shipping could be quite tricky. But just check with the seller. My stuff usually arrives promptly and without hassles with customs (import duty is prepaid).

You can find 1 meter length pieces of steel at COOP B&H, Migros do-it, Hornbach etc.,.. with similar widths and thicknesses.
What are the 4 and the 3 referring to in your dimensions? Quantity maybe?
Depending on what it's intended use is, 1 mm thickness could be fine for your application. I think JW is being overly dramatic in the fragility of 1 mm thick steel plate. Rolling a 1.5 m length of 1 mm thick steel for transport |

Such a sheet can cut damn well especially if the edge hasn't been broken.

If thickness of metal <3mm then it's sheet, otherwise it's plate.

Stuff that thin is often used decoratively, so a bent corner can ruin your day.
So can a cut, but they heal (and you can wear gloves). Staring at the chimney covering you made with your own two hands, and a bent corner or two for the rest of your days isn't therapeutic, at least not to me.
