Caught with incorrect ticket

Hello,

I am writing in this on behalf of my neighbour. He is a 19 year old foreign student. Just two weeks ago he purchased the "Voie 7" (Gleis 7) from CFF. The CFF person told him that everything which can be found on the CFF App can be accessed for free after 19h00. It was his first time ever using the Voie 7, and he used it to go from Geneva to Lausanne, stop name: "Ours". All was found on the CFF App. He took the train from Geneva to Lausanne, and then an other from Lausanne Gare to Lausanne Ours. The controllers came on (apparently with a rude attitude) and issued him a 100 CHF fine because it was not valid in Lausanne. He does not speak French and therefore could not defend himself very well.

I think what happened is that he took a train and then some sort of public transit train in Lausanne that is possibly not covered under the Voie 7, but I found it myself on the CFF app, it has the same logo as the first train and all. Doesn't seem to be any different. Plus, he got this train at the train station in Lausanne (seems logical that he would think that this is a train, as normally trains are what leave from train stations )

On his way back home, he asked the conductor on the train (different person), who told him that this is absolutely rediclous and that he should fight for it because she understood fully his points, and she stated that if she was checking the tickets she would have definitely let it go.

He is a foreign student in Switzerland and I think that the 100 CHF is a but hefty for him. I speak French, who should I call to the fine erased?

Thanks for your input, anything helps!

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

I live in German speaking Switzerland, so my stuff is all tagged with sbb.

Sometimes they make mistakes. And this is the second incident i’ve heard of where train personnel were rude to a young person this week. Mostly the train staff are very nice and understand that sometimes people get confused.

There’s this form online
http://www.dml.sbb.ch/en/station-ser...meldungen.html

And there is the service number
0900 300 300

You could start with one of those. Hope this helps.

E-mail or write letters. This will provide a trail which you would not have if your deal with this situation by phone.

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

If he doesn’t speak French, then the ticket seller was probably attempting to speak English. Easy enough for a misunderstanding to happen when neither is speaking his/her native language, but in the end, he’s responsible to have the right ticket. He’ll have to pay.

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

Was the 2nd train in Lausanne with CFF or was it part of TL?

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

Unfortunately if he was getting off at Ours, he was taking the metro which is part of the TL (transport lausannois) and not part of the CFF.

https://www.sbb.ch/content/dam/sbb/d...ichtskarte.pdf

This lists all of the public transport that the voie 7 is valid for, and it looks like the TL is not part of the list. So he didn't have a valid ticket for the TL metro.

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

Apparently Voie 7 isn't valid on Lausanne Métro, which L-L'Ours is part of.

Check the validity of Voie 7 for a given connection here (not available in English). Notice the red 7 for L-L'Ours, it's partially red for Geneva to L'Ours, when unfolded Voie 7 is also red for L-L'Ours.

(L is short for Lausanne gare, L'Ours for Lausanne-Ours)

Re: Caught with incorrect ticket

Hello All!

Just incase you're still reading this post. I sent a typed letter in the mail to TL (Transit Lausanne) I got a typed letter back in the mail about four or five days later saying that the fine had been lowered from 100 CHF to 10CHF, but it had to be paid in a very short amount of time (I think it was within four days)

On the train he was told that he would get a 100 CHF fine and 30 days to pay

Success!
