Where to Buy a Prayer Rug

Anyone know where I could purchase a prayer rug or two in the Bern area. Worse case, I could travel to Zurich.

We have guests coming and I need these by Wednesday evening.

Grateful for any suggestions!

Are you sure your guests don't bring their own?

Unfortunately, they don't and last time they just knelt on the bare floor.

It's a very last minute visit and we wanted to do something nice.

JagWaugh, the travel one would do in a clinch, but I would prefer to have something with a little more... more

Re: Where to Buy a Prayer Rug

You don’t necessarily need prayer mats to pray. Any space that is clean without impurity will suffice. However, if one had to use one then towels are a good alternate.

You can also order them from eBay that will deliver to Switzerland. As they are of low value (especially from China), you don’t even have to worry about import charges.

I know near Europaplatz there's a store that does "Hijab fashion". If they don't have them there, maybe they could point you in the right direction?

Re: Where to Buy a Prayer Rug

Towels don't sound like something comfortable to kneel on. How about a yoga mat?

And while I really don't want to sound ignorant, I honestly don't know: Whats the difference between a rug sold as prayer rug and any other rug of Arabian or Persian origin of the same size sold at pretty much any furniture shop?

The picture of a Mihrab which has to point towards Mekka is what makes a rug a prayer rug.

Re: Where to Buy a Prayer Rug

St. Gallen but only one.

How many do you need?

You are on really short notice. I'll ask a friend, he might have an idea, and get back to you.

Re: Where to Buy a Prayer Rug

Okay, I got a couple of addresses for Winterthur but I guess that is too far for you.
Then there is a shop near Limmatplatz but my friend doesn't remember the name (maybe that rings a bell to someone else here?).

His best idea though: Go to a mosque in Bern, they can tell you surely!
