3-Dapter kickstarter

I've been looking for an adapter that doesn't obstruct the other plugs in the standard circular 3 plug electrical outlet. It looks like someone is addressing the annoyance:

It's not very well explained, but I think the idea of these is to help you plug in multiple chargers/adaptors to a triple wall socket. Usually the body of a charger takes up much more space than just the 3-pin footprint, so is often a problem, for instance where you want a phone and the router per in next to each other, normally resolved by using an extension strip, which then has extra wires to contend with.

The model mentioned is stupidity itself, however, as it doesn't allow a Swiss 3-pin plug to be used. Yes, many adaptor/chargers are only 2-pin, but why on earth would you design something specifically for the Swiss market that doesn't allow standard Swiss plugs to use it?

TBH I'm surprised you have sockets at all. When did you update to the 20th century anyway?

I placed my order a while ago. Perfect if you use German-bought appliances with these fat contured plugs in your kitchen!

Re: 3-Dapter kickstarter

A friend ordered some as well (lots of FR equipment with the Suko plugs). They are supposedly to start shipping this month. My guess would be January at the earliest.

The nice thing (apart from the fact that you do not block the other two plugs) is that they work with a number of other plugs including North America. Detail are on the Kickstarter page.

To be honest, I wish all those bulky plug transformers were shaped something like this. Some are so badly designed they block both the remaining sockets.

So they can sell you a Swiss to EU adapter to go with it!

Eh???

This 3-Dapter thingy is to adapt non-Swiss plugs (primarily the Euro "Schuko" plugs) for use in Swiss sockets. If you have an appliance with a three-pin Swiss plug, you plug it straight into the socket! The point is that if you use 3-Dapters for your Euro appliances, you can plug up to three of any combination of Swiss and non-Swiss appliances into a Swiss triple socket (using the 3-Dapters only for the non-Swiss appliances).

You could also use multiple 3-Dapters in Swiss power boards, but only those longer boards with the sockets rotated 90 to allow any "plug overhang" to go off to the side.

Or as Castro says, take three minutes to wire on a Swiss plug (this may annoy visitors to Switzerland, though).

Re: 3-Dapter kickstarter

That model is great (available at OBI etc.) but it is CH to CH only. So for a EU plug you would still need the EU/CH adapter. It starts to get ugly.

This Kickstarter product is EU/USA etc to CH in one product AND it allows (as mentioned above) you to use all 3 of the outlets without needing to use an extension cord. It solves a couple of problems at the same time (EU to CH and Bulky to CH) when using a typical CH three plug set-up.

Where do you suggest purchasing the 3 prong swiss plugs ready for wiring?

Yup. Yet there are two things I'd change about it:
1) A flat socket surface, so it is directly compatible with bulky plugs. (e.g. power supplies with integrated plug and converters)

2) An inlet for the 3-pronged US plugs.

Essentially, they should have used the universal socket design:

But this solves 60% of my troubles...

Re: 3-Dapter kickstarter

A much more 'elegant' solution , since most power adapters are two pin anyways.

If you plug in an ac/dc thingy (and now a days you have loads of those) the kick-starter product will again not do the trick.
The one I linked you can plug anything in and use all three of them, even if you had 3 ac/dcs.

I don't know if three kickstarter-sockets will look pretty in a socket but then again that is not my aim when connecting things

I just love wall sockets with build in USB charging ports, makes me get rid of a lot of those big adapters.
