Prescription drugs order to Switzerland

Howdy!

I recently ordered a pack of 75 sleep pills from an online vendor to Lugano. It turned out to be a prescription drug (cat. A) in Switzerland and was stopped by the customs. I obviously don't have a drug prescription to buy the drug in CH and the amount of drug in the package exceeds a typical 1-month dosage.

I received a letter with a form where I am supposed to declare the value of the goods imported, attach an invoice and sign it. I assume that after I sign the document the customs may ask for a prescription and eventually put a fine on me, or even worse trigger some legal action.

Did anyone have a similar situation? What can potentially happen after signing the customs declaration? What is a typical scenario for ordering prescription drugs to CH?

I've checked past threads:
https://www.englishforum.ch/family-m...port-fine.html
but didn't find relevant information that could answer my questions.

Thanks,
mundo

Oh, and even if it were only a 1 month package, you wouldn´t get it when you need a prescription for that in Switzerland, not ordering online

Re: Prescription drugs order to Switzerland

Out of interest even if you did get the drugs, how were you going to satisfy yourself that the drugs were genuine and safe to take and not some out of date stuff that had been repackaged or worse?

Not true.

How so? I always thought that medication that needs a prescrition in Switzerland (and it looks like OP does not have that) cannot be imported

Re: Prescription drugs order to Switzerland

According to a Swiss law firm:

"narcotics containing medicines like, for example, sleeping pills, sedatives or even strong analgesics may only be imported into Switzerland if the shipment is accompanied by a prescription from a Swiss doctor. "

Additionally:
"If the drug import exceeds a monthly requirement, the import is illegal and the shipment is blocked at customs. Swissmedic, the Swiss Authorization and Supervisory Authority for Medicine, then opens an administrative procedure (Article 66 (1) HMG), which usually results in the destruction of medicinal products. The costs to be borne by the customer are, according to experience, at least CHF 300.00. In addition, Swissmedic can also initiate criminal proceedings against the importing customer on repeated import offenses or suspicion of trading."

If the medication is for a genuine diagnosed condition, why not go to the doctor here and get a prescription for whatever the equivalent is in Switzerland?

Granted you may be picking them up cheaper from a foreign website but, as others have pointed out, how do you know they are the real thing? Also, with most sleeping tablets courses, you should have a review every so often to ensure they are still required and you aren't simply addicted to them.
