Any garden experts out there?

I have a Clematis Jackmanni and many of the leaves have these white spots. Any idea what it is?

Looks like powdery mildew
Powdery mildew is white and on the surface of the leaves (as in your photo).

Omtatsat's discolouration is more of a pale yellow and looks to be in the leaves.

I asked him to check the underside of the leaves as it could be some sort of insect problem.
It could also be the first sign of a lack of nutrients or a virus.

Yeah, you're probably right. I simply googled clematis diseases and this looked most similar.

Here's the back of the leaf. Nothing special there.

Re: Any garden experts out there?

I had that on one of my clematis - it is usually caused by lack of water which stresses the plant out - it never usually occurs if the plant has been subjected to a rainy climate.
The only solution is to treat it with a fungicide - not ideal is you do not wish to use.

It's hard to know what the right measure of water is to give. Its in a pot and its never dry on the upper soil.

The roots should always be moist so maybe the water is not making its way down if the pot is large. Clematis do like a large pot!!
