Where to have microscope cleaned?

Hi,

I bought an old microscope on Ricardo and sadly lenses were dirty. Does anyone know where I can have it serviced? Preferably in Zurich but any address might work. I could clean the lens at home maybe if someone can tell me where to buy and which materials. Thanks a lot!

Re: Where to have microscope cleaned?

I were determined to do it myself, I'd try standard optical cleaning solution and other supplies carried by any photography store. (Often you start with an air blower, and it is hard to imagine that being unsafe.)

That said, you'd probably need to do a bit more research, perhaps based on the specific model of scope, to be really sure what is safe to use.

Also, are you just talking about surface dirt, or has dust gotten into the lens assembly itself? In the later case, the challenge is a lot higher - disassembling a reassembling a lens assembly without introducing more dirt is a bit more specialized as a task.

Your local optician should normally tell you.

Re: Where to have microscope cleaned?

Start by writing brand and model + "cleaning" in google and see what pops up.
For example if it's a leica https://www.leica-microsystems.com/s...oscope-optics/
I don't think you need many materials besides cotton, distilled water, air blower and if the dirt is really stuck then buy a solvent specific for lenses (that doesn't ruin coating and surrounding plastics).

Re: Where to have microscope cleaned?

Thanks, I just searched "optik clean" and found optik-papier + other stuff on Galaxus. I guess it is right thing: https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s1/product...leaning-248674

I've been searching "lenspapier" before which had not give useful results.

Also what I thought dirt was something else actually. just a black ring was in the way between the lens and the light. but earlier I removed a lot of dirt with 70 deg. alcohol and cotton swap. hope I didn't ruin anything.
