Stuff held at customs... black hole.

Just a moan really..

I ordered a pair of gym shorts back 14th June, start of the hot weather. I specifically wanted short shorts and couldn't find them in Oschner etc. They only cost 17eur and free shipping from the Netherlands.

Turned out that they had a ten day lead time.. Then processing time.. Eventually they reached CH on the 23rd July "Arrived at destination country" .. Now since 24th July they are "Being processed by CH customs"

WTF are they doing?? Processing what?? It's a pair of shorts. They are from a big well known company, I'm sure the correct shipping docs were attached, even if not and customs had to open it, it's a pair of shorts, process them FFS.. It's nearly winter again.

Working out what price they think the shorts SHOULD be so that they can tax you and charge you a hefty admin fee. 🤢🤮

For those of you with a childish mind like me ..
How about what the shorts are called

Maybe the customs people are trying them on, doing squats in them ..

A bottle of Port my parents sent me as a present is still being processed 8 years later.

I don't know, perhaps someone thought they were such short shorts, they liked your short shorts, and ended up wearing those short shorts.

Re: Stuff held at customs... black hole.

I recently ordered a pair of trousers from the UK and received a letter from Swiss customs asking me to provide the original invoice indicating cost of the item and shipping charges as the sender had not provided these documents. I sent them the Order Confirmation email from the store (Total value of 51 CHF including shipping) and received my package a few days later with NO charge!

I've also had a parcel stuck at "Customs clearance process" for close to 9 days and received it with about 26 Chf of fees (16+10) and approx 8% of goods value. In this case the seller had provided the invoice and the charges were in line with expectations.

As another forumer suggested, you should contact them via email/phone.

With Swiss customs, its best when the Invoice with value of items is accessible without them having to open the package. Strictly speaking they have a right to open ALL packages. Usually you don't get charged for items below 65 Chf. Anything over, expect to pay 26 Chf + 8% of value of item.

Contact who though.. I assume there are customs points at each entry point to the country .. The tracking link I have is from post.nl .. It simply says "Arrived in CH" then "being processed by customs"

There's a central CH customs contact who can track my parcel from a Dutch post tracking number?

This is normal procedure and it is also normal that there was no charge. The limit is CHF 65.

Not sure about that (no charge). My understanding is that there is an Inspection and Clearance fee that can be levied based on discretion. And technically, they are allowed to inspect every parcel. I remember having paid 26 Chf one time (item cost 35 Chf incl delivery).

Also in the most recent case, since the Sender had not made the invoice available they had to open the parcel and check and I was expecting to pay the 26 Chf but was not levied in the end.

There is no longer an inspection fee for duty-free imports, this has been abolished.
