Männedorf, on the Gold Coast. I paid a little over 2k a month for it.
you just gave me a very useful insight. I just checked the distance between Männedorf and my company. it turns out that it is just 40 minutes from door to door. Actually it is very reasonable to live in Männedorf when I imagine myself waking up to a nice view of Zurich Lake! The rents are much affordable compared to the center as well. Could you give me any other tips like this regarding alternative places to live in Zurich which is not more than 50 min away from Oerlikon?

Thanks!!!

Wallisellen, Dübendorf, Dietlikon, even closer than Männedorf, although no lake view (but nice tax rates)

Well, Oerlikon is a very popular place to live for example!
Quick ride into the city if you want, lots of good restaurants, cafes, sports amenities etc. Have several friends enjoying living there at very reasonable rents.

Do you mean that I should pay higher tax than I would do in Zurich Center if I live in these districts?

Not until you are on a C permit, but then yes

Zurich is 117 (I think), Wallisellen 97, Dübendorf 100

Hello everyone!
I am moving to Zürich in March for a job.
I am a single person and my salary will be 86000 Franc/year.
What kind of a life would it give me? I am okay with living in a shared flat.

Greetings and thanks in advance!

Evren
You wont be homeless. And maybe you will get 3 meals a day. But uncertain

Don't worry. When you've been here a little longer you'll realise that OTT is just our main resident grouch.

I am expecting to get promoted quickly with a %20-30 salary increase as I spoke with my boss.
I would be careful with managing expectations; and I hope your future boss is aware of its importance.
That sounds like an unrealistic bump in most cases (depending on what "quickly" exactly means).
Unless it's a matter of starting as an intern/postgraduate and subsequently shifting to a full-time regular employee.

In my case postgrad-->regular was indeed a 28% increase (gross salary of course).

You can live along the silver coast (Thalwil, Rüschlikon etc) which are easily accessible by train from Zurich. If you would like more sunshine you can choose somewhere along Gold Coast a bit further down from Küsnacht (so that it is cheaper)

These places are a bit on the quiet side though. If you want to be around restaurants and shops, you could go live in Oerlikon.

All good advice regarding housing. As you probably already know, food is more expensive than anywhere else I can think of, but as a single person that would not make too huge a dent into your comfortable budget. You'll be fine, and you'll be able to enjoy a lot of the city. Happy landing!
