unless the expartner is some kind of MIT genius or works for mossad 'hacking' an iphone is way beyond them. If its not then I'm sure a whole load of job offers will be coming their way.
If it's a rooted iphone, or an android phone, just buy/download an app and install it while the other person is not looking. It would be highly illegal but not that difficult to do. There was some article in the newspapers a while (few years?) ago about companies offering such software.
Some of their clients were apparently companies providing company phones to their employees.

I'd say, drop hints which could only be known if somebody is listening through the phone. Then check who else knows about them. Maybe dance around naked in front of the camera.

Why don't you just buy a new phone and switch to a new provider?

Remove the battery of your old phone. No battery, no bug/wiretap. Now shred the phone and dispose the battery properly.

Buy a new phone. In a random chosen store at least 100 km away where you live. Next go in anther town and buy an new notebook. Use this notebook only to make backups of your phone. Never connect your phone to any other computer. And only connect the computer with internet once to download the needed connection software. After that never ever again. Do this from a public WIFI hot spot in a third location.

To get to all this places travel by public transport. Pay the tickets using hard cash. Get full fare ones. Do not use a half fare card discount so that you can show the ticked w/o any further ID. Do not have any other phone or any other electronic device with you when you do this. Nothing with a battery (watches, radio receiver, pace maker etc.), with a plug (computer, power supply, hair dryer, washing machine, etc.), or RFID (bank cards, half fare card, car keys, cloth safety tags, chipped cat or dog etc.) Do not install any apps (no candy crush, whatsapp, facebook, pinterest, threema, telegram, etc.) on the new phone. Do not surf on the internet with the new phone. Always remove the battery when you are not using it,an especially during sensitive private conversations. Regardless if in person or on the phone.

or buy one of these

Re: Check mobile for bug/wiretap?

Actually - now that everybody took the piss - I knew someone who's ex had access to her handy. She even got messages on the handy, telling her when it had been accessed (but not by whom) but he often said the wrong things (those he wouldn't know if he hadn't read her stuff) long after she had moved out.

I don't remember the details, it was two years ago. But someone who has access to your handy just for a short while actually can plant all kinds of stuff and access it via a computer after. So if OP has na insanely jealous partner .....
change handy, phone-no. and partner. Actually, in reverse order

Or make sure there are some very disturbing messages to see.

When I access something-google from a different computer than those google knows about, I'm always asked after - when returning to one they know about - "was that you?". I always click "no" and remember for a while to stick to the registered ones.

if you're seriously worried about being bugged / tracked the only solution is to dispose of your mobile phone and only use public phones.

kinda wanna know who the op works for / has pissed off that they think they are so important that someone would go to all the hassle and extreme expense, not to mention multiple laws broken, to bug their iphone lol
Really?

Because I’ve seen it. Not with an iPhone, admittedly, but I’ve seen cases where phones have been discovered to be tapped.

There are a variety of reasons - corporate espionage, traditional espionage, reporter looking for a story, whatever. But it happens.

In that case, the most obvious place to look for advice is an expat forum.

Might be, if you’re looking for local recommendations as to companies who deal in that sort of thing.

Re: Check mobile for bug/wiretap?

Just some quick points, as I see lots of fun with this thread:
  • The phone is Android - Samsung (not the latest model though).
  • @rainer_d: Not "that" accountant (but that was a damn good movie! )
  • It's business phone, used in business environment only. I know who delivered the phone in the first place, who uses the phone (it's not me), the workplaces it's used in and I can speculate possible reasons why someone would go to such extremes.
  • But I do agree that an normal business wouldn't risk getting into trouble with the authorities, this is playing with fire and you're screwed if you get caught; but human nature has surprised me in the past, and since this suspicion was raised by the phone user, I like to be on the safe side with this.
  • The point is not just to dispose the phone (that could be done "yesterday"). It is wise to complete an investigation to confirm or not the suspicions; then if it's bugged, contact the authorities, if not, dispose the phone for good measure as aforementioned.
  • Apparently I have contacted our IT department too and they'll come back with an answer asap, but a local forum for local shops/companies turned out not to be a bad idea either (among the spam, there are 3-4 good posts - thank you @rainer_d, @yacek, @Squeeeez, @Curley and @Corbets).

That's all gents, i'll let you know of the outcome. In the meanwhile, here's something for the truly interested: The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate U.S. Companies

That article has been refuted by all parties affected.

Phone manufacturers even admit that every phone contains a miniature microphone. Even public phones do. The guy at the other end of the line can hear everything you say. This is scandalous.

I vaguely recall that there was a court ruling some years ago that a business does indeed have the right to monitor what you're saying on an office phone on office time.

If you want a private conversation, get a private phone.

I worked for a Swiss company 20 years ago, at 18.00 they turned outside lines off to save money, however I always needed to phone later than that. It was easier to have clients call me directly on my mobile & cut out the middle man

Not with your consent. Not in this country.

I would like to see that court ruling.

You can be sure the NSA or KGB is listening to every word you speak. Not to mention all the tracking of where you go,who you meet etc etc etc.
