Hi 3wishes, that's strange. I bought my kindle from amazon.de, but I registered it with Amazon.com. I buy all my ebooks from there. Did you register the kindle with .de?
but as you say the same amazon login works at all amazon locations. I have ordered physical goods from .de, .fr. co.uk and .com.
Similar situation here. I got my kindle from .de but I registered it with amazon UK and get all my ebooks from there.
For physical goods I look at all the sites using the same login and order from the one which a. Ships to Switzerland and b. Is the best price.

For books in English the UK site is usually best.

Shit.

Do they at least still sell Flake bars?
I was last in there just before Christmas and they still have a selection of British and American treats. Didn't specifically notice Flake bars, though.

Re: Where to buy books in English

This is a small shop in the Zürich area that I've ordered from on many occasions. They have an e-store as well. Service has always been excellent and they have parking in front of the shop if you want to visit. The web page on English books is in English.

Hi everybody!

Searched the forum but didn't find anything - where is it possible to buy paper books in English now?
Amazon stopped delivering to CH
Orell Fuessli has a... let's say a conservative stock
exlibris the same

I can let Amazon deliver to France or Germany but it's kind of a PITA and maybe there's a better option?

You don't have to convert your account, but you have to use .de if you want e-books for a kindle. Amazon knows my kindle is in CH now, so even if I log on to the .com site I can't order kindle books there. I have to use .de. But as Belgianmum says, I use the same login and password.

+1 for bookdepository.
I have just spent hours of frustrating phone calls trying to get audible books ordered and paid for at amazon.co.uk downloaded onto my kindle fire. No success until i remembered our vpn subscription - 3rd book downloading at the moment. What is it with amazon and these crazy restrictions on geographical whereabouts -whose law are they frightened of breaking? In todays global economy this is crazy.

Re: Where to buy books in English

And a tip for adult readers. I haven't figured out how it works yet, but my sister just set me up with cloudLibrary service. It is available through the public library in the community where I am registered to vote in the U.S.

For anyone with connections back home in an English-speaking country, this service - or something similar - might be available to you as well.

I get access to books on tape or e-books. Newer books are subject to a waiting list. Like Michelle Obama's new book...there's a long waiting list. But other older books are instantly available. You check them out electronically and have access to them for a certain period of time.

Best,
Julia

Re: Where to buy books in English

In our experience Amazon UK is certainly cheaper than Amazon DE. For example the same English cookery book on Amazon DE was EUR25 and in UK was GBP7.99.

Delivery is swift too - normally if ordered on Monday I have the books on Thurs/Fri without paying any extra for expedited postage.

Under the new rules for 2019 you're allowed to bring in CHF200 of books duty free though I have yet to order more than GBP50 at a time.
