Why bother commenting such a useless and negative remark, and what do you even know? It's a huge marketplace for a range of brands, including expensive designer labels.

Re: Ordering from Asos

I never ordered from ASOS (and never will) but I highly recommend YOOX for unbelievable variety, great quality, prices and service.
I did order once into Switzerland from yoox and was disappointed to loose some money on custom fees upon merchandise return. So I stopped shipping to Switzerland and now only use Germany for shipping and returning goods.
Yoox is where I do most of my shopping for the past 14 years.

That's a good tip - I'd never heard of them. I will be checking them out! :-)

Re: Ordering from Asos

Does anybody have recent experience with ASOS? Did you pay additional customs and tax in your purchase? If yes, I have a specific question -- I ordered 5 pieces of wedding dresses to try on, and I plan to choose one and return the rest. How can the tax on that be refunded in case? Thank you

According to their website you are liable for charges. No idea how you claim back on a return, I’ve always wondered this.

Re: Ordering from Asos

Asos delivers DDP to Switzerland. When you select Switzerland as your country it clearly states that customs duties are included. See the screenshot.

Re: Ordering from Asos

On Asos you don't pay taxes and duties separately so you don't have to worry about how to claim those back. Let's say I place an order for 1 dress and the price is 75 on the product page. Then 75 is the total amount that I pay at checkout and that same amount will be refunded if I return the dress. I don't have to pay any extra charges when I receive the dress either as indeed delivery is DDP, which stands for "Delivery duty paid".

Some tips for shopping on Asos:
- They are having lots of offers at the moment. About once a week there's 20% extra off. Just today there was this offer and it keeps coming back
- Pay in GBP instead of CHF, as the prices are cheaper in GBP
- Free shipping over 35,24 (this figure changes slightly depending on the exchange rate)
- Free returns however you have to print your return label so you need access to a printer
- When you print your return label you can use that tracking number on pick@home for a free pick up of the package at your home. That way you don't have to go to post office for your return.

How does that work? In your example, the dress is 75, which is over the threshhold of about 62 CHF for duty-free even before shipping costs are added. Does Asos actually charge every customer the same end price, but somehow adjust the base price down so they can pay the VAT and duties for every country as owed?

Re: Ordering from Asos

Yes, the 75 was on purpose for the example to be over the Swiss limit. For non DDP the free limit in Switzerland in 2021 is still CHF 65, for the total of the items plus shipping. This page covers a lot of questions about the additional fees for deliveries that are often asked on this forum:

https://www.post.ch/en/business-solu...ustoms-and-vat

Before Brexit on some UK sites the 20% VAT would be removed when shopping from outside of the EU. So when you filled in a Swiss address the price of the item would automatically drop by 20%. As far as I know Asos has never done this. I have been ordering from them since 2009 and the 20% VAT has always been charged. So I would pay the British VAT and also pay the extra fees here if the total was over the Swiss limit.

A few years ago Switzerland changed its import regulations for companies and Asos had to adapt or they wouldn't be able to sell to Switzerland anymore. So then Asos deliveries became DDP and free returns were introduced as well. They only deliver DDP to some countries so in general they still make more off VAT worldwide. That's my understanding of it 3Wishes, so what you wrote would be correct about the same base price and then adjusted accordingly. Some other country sites have different prices but the prices on the UK and Swiss site have always been the same and still are. They use a higher than actual GBP to CHF exchange rate, which is why shopping in GBP instead of CHF is cheaper on the Swiss site.
