| | Creating Panorama info maps
Hello,
Some friends who are getting married have an amazing view from their house - and I'd like to give them a Panorama map like you often see on hillside viewpoints or ski slopes showing each mountain name/height etc that you can do using Peak Finder (example attached).
If it's not too costly I'd also like to engrave this so they can have it on their balcony.
I wonder if anyone has any contacts/ideas on how this could be done in Switzerland please.
Thanks in advance!

I have no idea where you'd get this, but I wanted to say I think it's a lovely gift idea. | The following 3 users would like to thank 3Wishes for this useful post:

These people, Laserhaus.ch, could probably do it. They do individual pieces.
No idea of the cost but probably much more if you don't provide your own graphic.
You can get a panorama image from the smart-phone app, Peakfinder which would be a start.

And in addition you can see if they have (or can make) a panorama knife of that view? https://www.panoramaknife.com/de/ | The following 2 users would like to thank roegner for this useful post:

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone - some great ideas to follow up on! Hopefully I can find something that does not break the budget!
I have also found a company that seem to do a lot of the ski map illustrations in Europe - Sitour though I fear the cost will be crazy but let's see!

| | | | | Please report back - it's a great idea and I'll love to know whether you managed to get it done, where, and how much it all cost.

Quite a few companies out there who can laser-engrave virtually any vector graphic onto metal (aluminium seems to be most popular). The bigger challenge may be actually preparing the vector graphic to a professional standard and getting it into the right format. But if you're prepared to spend some time fiddling with various bits of open-source software that you can download, you can probably do it yourself.

LaserHaus have proved decidedly unhelpful so far sadly - so I might see if I can find someone similar further afield as I think engraving it so it can stay outside in all weathers would be the preferred option.
I have messaged the knife folks and am waiting for a response.
Will keep you all posted :-)

Engraving metal may be the 2nd best solution. Glass may be better as it's see-through and can be lit from behind, probably from below as well. If placed on a swivel it can be swung around to match the horizon no matter your position. Just a thought that arose when visiting this site (I have no idea if those folks are any good, there must be plenty others). From the looks of their site they don't do inexpensive, though.

Nice idea for a present, I'd also be interested in where to buy the metal ones. I found the site above by chance on an internet search, but it looks like photos rather than etchings.

I'd definitely follow up with them - I just checked their website and under Gallery images (3rd line/2nd image) they have engraved a panorama for a previous client :-)

Like, Lasergravur Metall Zürich. These guys in Regensdorf appear engrave essentially every material. Wood, metal, stone, glass, acrylic glass, you name it. Even iPhones.

Thanks for all your feedback thus far. Much appreciated! A quick update: LaserHaus were really not helpful - offering conflicting info on their website about their capabilities and showing no interest to offer alternatives. Panorama Knife - no response.
The Ski info map folks in Austria - no response.
Am currently working with YourPanorama who have been super responsive/helpful. When the weather improves the plan is to take some photos which can be stitched together for a design mock up. They'll then overlay the respective mountain names/heights etc.
Then we have the option of either an engraved or photographic panorama. The end result will most likely be approx 60cm x 20 cm
Will come back to you when I know more. Have a good weekend!

Better late than never here is a photo of the finished product. It was realised through a great co-operation with Franco of YourPanorama. The panorama highlights the sweeping view of the Alps and highlights approx 50 peaks in 11 cantons that are visible from the balcony of the property on the Zug/Zurich cantonal border. The Panorama starts with Chaiserstock at 2514m in Canton SZ/UR and finishes far right with Beichle at 1769m in Canton LU.
Any questions please ask! | The following 4 users would like to thank Massa for this useful post:

Final price depends on the chosen size and whether you take the photos yourself or not - plus how you want to mount the panorama.
