Are most EnglishForum members actually, well, English?

I used to assume EF is a place for residents of Switzerland who can communicate in English and don't comfortably speak one of the official languages.

However, I see more than often some very UK-specific terminology used here, and even worse, it seems everybody knows what they mean except me

This made me wonder actually how many EF users are actually British or English. Does anybody know?

P.S. Not that it changes anything or even matters that much. Just curiosity!

Happy weekend!

Re: Are most EnglishForum members actually, well, English?

I believe that many also originate from Canada, US, all-over Western Europe, Australia, Asia Pacific etc. etc. And of course, Switzerland.

When I first joined this was immediately obvious from the profile, but new members tend to hide that now-a-days, (as you've chosen), and I find that a shame.

I once enquired into some circles of visiting colleagues who used EF, and realised that there are also many Indians (I was informed that it's not immediately obvious, but they know each other).

Try running stuff through here if you get stuck.

Some of it will help to clear the fog, some of it will make your hair stand on end...

English =/ British. It is a language. British =/ English, as the Welsh, N. Irish and Scots will tell you.

I'm English and British.
I'm U.K and Swiss, touch of Russian (and / or potentially whatever-else was beneath the blankets during the 60's).

My doctors believe my blood type primarily descends from a black background, or I'm an anomaly. Who knows - lived my first years in Brixton.

Does the OP need to know my religious background as well?
Brought up as Jewish / Church of England and Jehovas Witness.

Thalassemia? I have small red blood cells which suggest a relationship to this, though not a carrier. In my case, Mediterranean and a touch of North Africa, perhaps.

At any rate, iím A USer and I often struggle with all the British/English/whatever it is.

Wow! Exactly, Thalassemia Minor! We must be related and go on Jeremy Kyle, especially as we share additionally a love of samoyeds (don't worry, kidding).

Thanks so much for your post.

Hey, me, too! Runs through nearly everyone on my mother's side of the family despite our English/Irish blood. It's always been a bit of a mystery...
