eBay.de seller won't ship to CH - my options?

I found a vacuum on eBay.de that I'd like to purchase. It's more large and bulky rather than heavy so it may not even be within the size limits. The seller is unsure about and maybe won't ship to Switzerland. It would be about 10 hours of driving for me to pick it up which is not really an option for me right now.

What are some possible solutions?

1. I seem to remember reading about addresses in Konstanz that people use for such things, but I can't find any of the threads.

2. If it will fit within shipping limits, could I talk him through the paperwork process?

3. Find a way to make the drive?

4. Ship to family friends and ask them to bring it to CH?

1 or 2 would be my preferred I think.

Re: eBay.de seller won't ship to CH - my options?

Has anyone used this service? I’m looking for ways to optimize the shipping costs. I sent them a quote request for a package from eBay.de with the following dimensions - 56 x 57 x 76 cm und wiegt ca. 30 kg.

They quoted me 216 CHF plus another 20% for a “private sale”. So about 300 CHF which is almost the cost of the vacumn.

If I can get seller to accept less than 300chf and possibly split shipment into smaller package, would it make a difference.

The service does not seem to offer English support so I have to use a web translator and it took about three days just to get the quote information from their support.

I have, multiple times in the past, but for small items where the delivery fee was always 9.99. Can't complain on that.

Your item is probably too big to make sense. Is it better if you have it delivered to one of the locations near the border and go pick it up (and take care of the duties) yourself? http://www.barispaket.de/de/

The paket place could be exactly what I need. Prices seem very reasonable and the drive from Zürich looks to be pretty easy as well.

Picking-up the package in DE and bringing it back to Switzerland myself is not a problem. I declare it at the border and drive home. If the cost is under 300CHF I don't have to pay any Swiss tax/duty. Is that correct?

I'm not looking to avoid payment. I'm trying to figure out what this type of arrangement is most sensible. Additionally, it looks to be about 120Km of driving. For me that probably about 10L of fuel as well. Overall, not bad if it works out.

Re: eBay.de seller won't ship to CH - my options?

It seems that 20% extra for the private person is German tax(VAT). This is not considered for Swiss tax calculation.

Please note the following things.
If you buy something in Germany and the price is 300 Euro. which is ~340 CHF. This 340 contains Tax (19%VAT) as well. So the final amount is 285 and 45 is German tax. Swiss custom will be charged on CHF 285 and not on CHF 340. So this is free if you do not bring anything else.
Please note that you can get back German VAT if you buy it from a shop( example Media-Markt in Konstanz ).
E-Bay sellers usually do not refund German VAT but you can check with the seller if he will refund the German VAT. Sometimes Amazon ship directly to Switzerland(depend on sellar/Item). This is good because they automatically deduct German VAT and add Swiss custom.

VAT can only be deducted if the seller is VAT registered........

There is NO obligation for anybody to refund VAT, but it does have to be levied and either paid to the government or shown to have been exported and reimbursed to the buyer.

The seller cannot levy VAT and then just keep it to increase his profit, however he is within his rights to also levy an "administrative charge" to cover his costs of reimbursement.

Global Blue are a good example of "admin costs".....

That quote is plain rubbish imho.

Deutsche post for example:

Up to 31.5KG / 120*60*60 cm = 55,99 Euro.

May I ask what special vacuumer it is that you are willing to go through all this hassle?
