Not sure it's a Swiss thing - more of a sensible logical thing.
| | | | | But it's a slightly illogical rule in the first place. First of all, it's not next to a house, it's in a field. Secondly, if you don't want people to use it at the weekend, close it off.
I think in hindsight, there was a camera, which I didn't see.

Refuse to pay it-at least not 250 CHF. Maybe 20 CHF. Go to court if needed. Make a case out of it and change some of these crazy swiss laws

OK, so you could get round the chains but didn't it give you the inkling that perhaps they shouldn't be used?
Also, are you saying it was closed for the weekend or just on the Sunday, as you mentioned in your first post?

I didn't climb over anything. So yes, I did know it was not allowed, but at the same time, I think being a common sense kind of person, rather than following the strict letter of the law, I didn't see any harm in putting my paper in an open paper bin.
It was a typo, it was just Sunday that it's not permitted

I think people on here may be thinking in the wrong direction. Assume for a moment that the reason mentioned for the fine is correct.
OP, you say you were disposing of paper. Did you dispose of carton as well? Or perhaps plastics, I guess you've seen those sealed or packaged leaflets. Or leave some rubbish in a corner. I mean, essentially, did you dispose of anything other than paper, even stuff included in the heaps.
From what I understand, the ecopoints in Nyon are open Sundays, just not for glass (which you say you didn't dispose of): | Quote: | | | | Eco-points 7 jours sur 7
Aucun déchet ne doit être déposé hors conteneur! Les cartons ne sont pas collectés sur les sites. Le verre, trié par couleur, ne doit pas être déposé le dimanche et les jours feriés, ainsi que la nuit entre 22h et 6h

Heres what it is in Zürich.
"Who disposed of his household waste in the wrong place or at the wrong time, should in future pay up to 20,000 francs fine
In other words, anyone who places his rubbish bag on the street one day early, discards his rubbish in public waste or throws the bottles into the collection container on Sunday, has to reckon with a five-digit fine".
Wow. You came off lightly then! https://www.20min.ch/schweiz/news/st...aecke-24837760
But off course on Street Parade you are allowed to throw your waste anywhere! | The following 3 users groan at omtatsat for this post:

Immediately forwarding this thread to my husband who, after 10 years here, still thinks he can thwart all recycling laws to suit himself.
Just this past Sunday, driving by a large Coop which has a bunch of big recycling bins outside, with a bag of wine bottles in the back of the car to be recycled, he pulls in the parking lot.
Me: What are you doing? Coop is closed.
Him: I'm going to drop off those bottles in the back.
Me: It is Sunday, numbnutz.
Him: So?
He can remember Pi to 30 digits but he cannot remember, after 520 Sundays in this country, not to recycle. Y chromosome action at its finest.

It was only paper because I was aware that glass might make a noise. | | | | | Yes they do have a different attitude to laws, they enforce them, there is very little grey area you are either on the right side of the law or the wrong side, if you end up on the wrong side then you the penalty.

Remember last year some lady committed suicide by lying down on the Autobahn in the middle of the night.
Poor driver was found guilty for running over her.
