Web help : PHP.net not supported need to move to mysqli or PDO

One of my web sites which is down. It seems the type of code that was used to create it is out dated and it needs transferring over to new code/system. As I am sure you have picked up, I know nothing on this topic and really have no clue.

I dont think its a huge issue, and hoping it wont take too long for someone in the know to fix. The below is the info I received from the web site hosting company. I have other text but think this is the most relevant.

"It shows that your current codes are outdated on the current PHP version you are using. I notice on the error message that you are still using mysql connection queries. Since, PHP.net does not longer supporter mysql in version 7.1 and above, we do suggest to change it to mysqli or PDO queries instead."

Can any one help?

Change the DB driver... or pay someone to do it. I think such work in CH would be ~150-200 / hour and might take a few hours depending on complication.

Other choice is to try to find someone on site like fiverr.com from somwhere who will maybe do it for couple of bucks (but a bit of warning -> many people there do not have any clue really!)

Re: Web help : PHP.net not supported need to move to mysqli or PDO

I had something similar a couple of years back.

Fortunately I could adapt to the newer version by making a small number of syntactic tweaks. No large scale reprogramming required.

But my web site has oodles and oodles of .php code, much of which I wrote 10 years ago or more when apparently I had more time on my hands for such things. Looking at the code now, there are cases where I struggle to understand what i was thinking, and in some cases feel there could have been easier ways to acheive the same result.

But i still fear the day somebody pulls the plug on .php and I will be forced to re-write all of that.

Who wrote all this code for you and/or what software tool do you use to maintain it ? I'm wondering if you are using, for example, an old version of Wordpress or similar which was never configured to accept system updates.

I would reserve such strong words for a client who does not pay the bill that they are presented with for the services rendered.

Re: Web help : PHP.net not supported need to move to mysqli or PDO

Not my thing as php is too easy so I would not build any sensible career out of it but the change regarding the database driver looks really easy even for a scripting kid who took just a web dev boot camp and know how to google, check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQLi

*since your code is really old and you need to upgrade it to recent version there most likely would be more such cosmetic changes regarding other php stuff

Mundane manual work with some reasonable skills. You don't need to call an expert but most likely have to pay a few (hundreds0 bucks or give some beers to any of your friends capable of doing this.
