After only one year?

I recently got some cash I found, but after 5 years.

Tom
Well I found 500 CHF in a cash maschine once a couple of years ago. I took it to the bank of the maschine.( UBS ) They took it. Never heard anything since. They probably pocketed it

Careful, that is defamation.

I seriously doubt that someone would risk their career for 500 francs.

If it was a UBS card holder?. And where is the reward for me?

Any card machine can trace the last person who used it from any bank based on the card ID details.

Your reward was choosing not to act like a douchebag.

You should have taken it to the police, as I did.

They would only contact you if they did not find the owner.

Its the card maschine operator ( which is not the bank ) that would have to trace it

I am sure that the owner would have been given my contact details in case he wanted to thank me.

Not a chance. Even if they asked, the bank would be breaching your privacy were to do so.

And why do you think anyone should reward you for not stealing their money even though you could?

A reward would be the courteous thing do do. As in all cases of finding things. It was 500 CHF after all! And giving a phone number is hardly a privacy thing

Actually, if the money was still in the slot, the machine would have probably taken the money back after a few seconds/minutes if you had not taken it away

True.

Happened to me twice. Well not my money but the previous person's. They were too far gone to run after them so I just waited and the machine retracted the money. I mentioned this to a friend who works at the bank and he said it gets put into a special compartment. Seeing the machine logs all actions, they can trace whose money it is and return it to them.

Re: Left phone in a taxi

Found goods that clearly exceed a value of 10 CHF must be returned to the owner, or deposited with the police if that can't be done with relative ease. A finder has claim to a fair finder's reward, practice is 10% for goods with not-too-high of a value (well into four-figures values), that percentage falls the more valuable the goods are. Other factors have to be taken into consideration as well, such as the effort it took to apprehend and return the goods, the relevance of the amount to owner and finder, etc.

However you can not find and lay claim to a finder's reward on something you found picked up within a building or otherwise enclosed space or area. In those cases the building's owner is the legal finder, you have to hand the goods over to them or their representatives (such as the pool attendant in a Badi). Likewise if you find something on the train or in a public bus.

As such there was nothing to be found in omtatsat's case as the money hadn't left the machine yet.

Still, one would think that the bank wants to reinforce honesty and good citizenship, and express their "Thank you" by more than a lukewarm handshake (and create some sizeable goodwill in the process). Not even that happened in omtatsat's case, no wonder he's miffed and disappointed.

if you have the location and building address, surely just go there physically and get it. Common sense?
Unless, maybe, the location is not actually an office but the private residence of the taxi driver, or maybe an unmanned storage compound belonging to the taxi company. All reasons that might make a short phone call with the taxi company beforehand the preferable option.
