Receive shipments when you're not home

Hello,

How does this work here? How to avoid picking up the parcel from the office?

Do all courier require signature?

And has anyone tried installing parcel drop boxes such as
Pakman/parcelhome/ Elephantrunk drop box .....etc
Are they approved by the couriers?

Please share your experience.

Not all will accept this.

You need to sign/send an authorization to the courier company and they will leave it in your letterbox or by the side........at 100% your risk, of course.

But will they agree on using the drop box? I trust the neighbourhood I'm in and not a lot of traffic around it, but how to confirm the courier actually left it there.

I don't know if there's a specific brand courier approved in Switzerland but I found this
https://www.parcelhome.com/
but again not sure

There's a German brand also but I need to look it up again.

Re: Receive shipments when you're not home

If itís coming via Swiss post you can set up an account there that will automatically divert your incoming parcels to an alternative address you designate. Recently they have paired with Migros to have packages diverted there. PickMup.

They will send you an email once the parcel enters their system, and you can choose from a few options.

If itís s coming UPS or DHL, well, you are doomed ... Those guys are evil.

Never seen anything like this in Switzerland, which probably means it will be hit and miss.

The Swiss post only left a pick up ticket at the mail box. I was home at the time and no one rang the door bill. Not sure why, I was waiting for the parcel only to find a pick up ticket!

How about the non smart parcel drop box. The drop slot require no key or code. Once the courier closes the door the parcel drops down to the secured part of the box where a key is required to retrieve the parcel. And there's no way anyone can pick up the package from the drop slot. So maybe install this next to the existing mail box or use it as a mailbox also and have written instructions to drop the parcel there with no signature?

Waiting for more experiences or suggestions.

I'll try replacing the current mailbox with a drop box similar to Elephantrunk with written instruction on the box itself and see how it goes. But until then I'll see what other have to say.

I'm not sure you can simply take away the box that's there, even if you own the property. A friend of mine wanted to replace the mailbox and was told it was not possible, as it is the property of the Post.

Thanks for that. I'll make sure to contact the post before. And if they won't allow it I'll just install the drop box next to it.

I wonder if anyone here works at the post, maybe they can suggest this idea and make it easier for people to have approved drop boxes.

I suppose it depends where you live. I live in an apartment building. There's always someone here to bring in the parcels after they're dropped off. The only exception is if you have something that requires a signature - but in that case a drop box wouldn't work anyway.

All parcels require signatures as far as I know. So the Swiss post approving smart drop boxes with scanning rather than signing would be great.

Thanks. The rescheduling wasn't offered back then I don't know why, but it did put me off online shopping for some time. But good to know about the online e services.

Re: Receive shipments when you're not home

A quick search brings up this:

https://www.post.ch/en/private/recei...livery-parcels

You can also create a profile using SwissId and then you will get notifications when a parcel is sent to you. There you have the option to ask for Deponierung (depositing) in your absence if you are sure parcels left outside the door will be safe.

As to DHL and FedEx... With DHL, I get an SMS/Email about the delivery date and then I can do an "Unterschrift Freigabe" in most cases and they just leave the package outside the door. Some senders do not allow Unterschrift Freigabe but most do.

Similar with DPD which is used by Zara, Ikea etc.

Fedex seems to be a bit more difficult. Once I received a note (after a failed delivery attempt) about filling out a form and sending it to FedEx "Ermšchtigung zum Verzicht auf Empfangbestštigung" either for that specific parcel or for any future parcels. I filled out the form, scanned and sent it and they deposited the package in my absence.

Rubbish, why would the Post Office pay for letter boxes ?

If indeed it was the property of the Post Office then they would charge rent for it, that is 100% certain !

Post boxes need to have certain dimensions though, as laid out by the Post Office or theyx can and will refuse to deliver mail
