I was in Bern today and walked past phase 8 ( street near the hb) they had a lot dresses inside. Not sure of your style but they had more “festive” rather than business looks. On the same street were a couple other boutiques and the PKZ (I think).

I forget the street name but it’s the one where the staufacher bookstore is located.
I was looking in Phase 8 on Saturday and they do have some lovely dresses at the moment.

I suddenly found myself needing to find something nice to wear having been asked to be witnesses at a friend’s wedding next month, they seem to be following a similar timeline to EE.
I’m looking for simple and classic though, done the whole bridal thing once and I have no intention of doing it again.

Thanks everyone for the input, will most certainly take a stroll through the mentioned shops in Bern.

Registry office is booked and I now have a little over a month to get a frock. Wish me luck!

congrats EE! all the best to find something suitable, sorry i can't be of much help.

as i'm a bit of a brocki/ charity shop person -all i can think of are vintage shops or second hand ones, but not sure if you want a second hand item for the wedding

LOL!!
Usually I am too swissotter

Vintage all the way if I can help it, but since it is my 2nd time to tie the knot and I already didn't have a proper festive whatever gown on the 1st time due to being highly pregant and and his exness not wanting a fuss nor splash out....NOW it is my time.

And my darling Pirate has said, get what YOU LIKE, don't look at the price tag and I will try to do my best following his orders, but have, all the same, set for myself a budget for it which I intend to keep to!

Old habits die hard...........

And another shop I found in Ct. Berne, also catering for the plus size lady and super reasonable prices, whether for a proper wedding gown or a festive dress.

They've also an outlet of last seasons models or dresses with tiny faults, starting at 390.-

And the next recommendation for Berne based brides-to-be.....we rented an oldtimer bus (Saurer L4C) for our day from this firm based in Bern.

https://www.dysli-bern.ch/de/unternehmen/carflotte

Reasonable price, very helpful and friendly staff, totally recommendable!!

Re: Looking for recommendation of shops in/around Bern for festive clothing

Another recommendation for a shop, this time in Münsingen ....for tiny knick knacks and a lot of paraphernalia around a wedding as well as Tiaras/Handbags and the like

Some decoration (church/reception) can also be rented from there

https://www.weddingliving.ch/de/

The shop owner can also be booked as Wedding Planner, tho' she told me; despite her English sounding name she is not a native speaker, but can speak and understands English pretty well on a normnal conversation level!

Cool. Isn’t it traditional Chinese who believe that red brings good luck and thus Werra it at their weddings.

Re: Looking for recommendation of shops in/around Bern for festive clothing

@3wishes, can we come up with a better name for the thread, something more like: Links and addresses (recommendations) in regards to anything 'wedding-y' around Bern...... or soemthing else more along that line.

I will also gladly answer any and all questions that might arise henceforth on this topic from new readers.

I am all done now

Legal stuff is done and dusted
Local for ceremony (in a castle) is booked
Oldtimerbus for the day is also organised
Venue and meal are booked and ordered
Dress is bought, shoes as well
Trial hairdo is done and I got a TIIAAAAAARRAAAAAAAA
Flowers, as well as my wedding bouquet and the Pirate's buttonhole flower can also be ticked off the list

and last but not least, for a few hours we spoil ourselves by having booked a photographer

I think I've got it all now and can lean back until the BIG day.

I am waiting for confirmation on the level of English language skills of the photographer and the lady from the flower shop, before I post those links.

I couldn't think of anything better, and your idea fit within the text box, so there you go.

Congrats on having almost all the planning sewn up! Must be a big relief.

Wow!! That was quick, says the Bärner Modi

Well it is not entirely over yet....my darling Pirate lacks a suit (that isn't 3 million years old!!)

Thus, doglet is at kennels as of today, and the Pirate has got a week holiday from work, which will be spent hunting for that elusive suit, that matches my dress and will be comfortable for him to wear and suit his lanky stature and an investment in the future.

We already know of two weddings next year we're invited to, so once we're suited and booted, we are open for any and all invitations that require glam garb.

Unfortunately, he loves shopping for clothes more than I do.....so I am hoping we'll soon find something suitable, so that I can indulge in some hookery for the remainder of the dog-free week...it is aaaageeesss since I had a 'jammie day

For a photographer, we booked Christoph Bosshard of www.fotocraft.ch (Belp) speaking English is not a problem for him and he's a top bloke!

Check out his website.

Well, as the Countdown to our wedding starts ticking very loudly, I am glad to say that everything is ordered or organised and the Pirate has finally also been suited and booted with new stuff.

Here we can recommend 'PKZ for Men' in Bern, we got a really helpful young man, helping us chose the suit and accessories and the prices of the suits etc vary greatly, so if you are on a budget or not, you're certain to find something to wear.

https://www.pkz.ch/de/

Our flowers were ordered from our local branch of

http://www.flowerpoint.ch/index.php?route=common/home

Finally, the last thing has also been crossed off our list.

Keeping it small and intimate,we'll have a few glasses of Prosecco and some nibbles (from Migros Catering Service) in a log cabin in the forest on the other side of the Gürbetal valley. This makes me particularly happy, to be in the forest on my big day.

We can now just wait for our day to arrive, any good thoughts/prayers or even phone calls to St. Peter for next Friday, in regards to the weather are much appreciated.
