child's signature

Hi All
My kid has a children account at a well-known Swiss bank.
The other day he received a letter saying that he has to sign something regarding tax-declaration. The kid is 12 yrs and the letter doesnt mention anything like "your parents, or something similar".
I assume is a mistake and i will answer back to the bank but i would like to know whether a signature of child is legally accepted and has any power?

Thank you

Re: child's signature

Sounds like a mistake.

How would they cross check his signature is correct anyway? Only if he has a passport I guess but still..

Everone in Switzerland has a passpoert or ID with signature.

As far as I recall, 10+ need signature.

Re: child's signature

The banks check lots of things. I am a Swiss citizen domiciled in Valais. My daughter and grandson are Swiss citizens living in another country. I wanted to open a kiddie account on behalf of grandson with PostFinance, with which I do business. They rang me and said impossible: they checked and he's not Swiss-domiciled. I assume it had something to do with taxes: what I wanted was something like a US 529 account or a UK Junior ISA. I was prepared to come in with the child's ID card (no signature, he's only 6) but no dice. (FWIW I called Fidelity but he can't have as 529 account either since he is not a US citizen and hasn't a SS number. I have since learned that so long as a UK address and a utility bill in the name of the guardian is given, Hargreaves will open a Junior ISA.)
