Best hair clippers which the professionals use are from Moser, available at Galaxus for around CHF45

I've been shaving my head with them for years now.

Re: Any hairdressers available during this Corona shutdown in Zurich region?

My husband has got a set of clippers that he uses to trim his chest hair with (he's become what I refer to as "the full Sean Connery" in recent years lol).

I always buy salon products, so have plenty of finishing products like wax and I suggested to him he might want to be a modern man and use these to break his look up and make it more interesting when it starts getting long - I am adamant I am not going near it with clippers in case I make a mess.

He's also got a fez he bought at a Madness gig in Basel a couple of years ago, I've told him when push comes to shove he can wear that and pretend he's an ageing Camden Nutty Boy

Just a thought:

This is a very tough time for hairdressers, especially those who work independently or run their own small business.

If you can, one way to help is to keep buying the shampoo, styling products, etc. you would normally buy while visiting the shop. My hairdresser recently sent around mail offering to ship products, I would guess others would be happy to do so as well.
Aside from products, if mine would do a video chat and give me some pointers on how to trim my hair that would be great. I would be happy to pay. The videos on line are only somewhere helpful.

When we were little my siblings and I all had long hair and my mom always did the trimming. OH won't even attempt it.

I recently read that most women attempt to cut their own bangs while drunk. Definitely not an issue for me.

I don't have colour or highlights. My hairdresser calls grey "the new blonde".

Ooooh - that is a fantastic idea!

<Note to self: Call hairdresser with a proposal.>

In the meantime, I fear I, and many women, will soon be re-discovering the joys of millinery.

Just glad that I always cut the hair of my offspring myself, and now kidlet#3 and the Pirate look somewhat decent. So life on the breadline, in hindsight, had its ups as well

I already booked an appointment with my hairdresser (she's also a personal friend) on the first day she works again at 10am.

Same here. Also helps that I don't have the patience to spend hours with someone mauling my head. Must be 12yrs since I last went to a hairdressers and OH just uses his clippers.

One conversation I had with a hairdresser many years ago went:
"And which style do you want today?"
Me: "Well seeing as it's pissing down and blowing a gale outside, I'll have the one that's going to last about 5 minutes from me walking out of the door thanks!"

Apparently only those in a perm position are eligible...

As I understand the rules, hairdressers are eligible to receive compensation from the government while not being allowed to work (80% like RAV?). Thus if they accept government money and work anyway, they could get into a heap of trouble.

That's where I draw a line, Bob. They're blowing the industry dry with such cutting measures.

For all you with a partner/spouse/close friend:

https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s6/product...immers-5619821

CHF 26 so likely cheaper than you'd pay anyways. Plus it's reusable if the experiment goes well. Plus fun, laughs and drama guaranteed. All at once.

Re: Any hairdressers available during this Corona shutdown in Zurich region?

I taught my husband how to dye my hair. The first time was an adventure (he started applying the dye in the middle of my forehead, I had to use a pumice stone to remove it), but now he’s quite efficient. And he trims his own hair, as well as our two sons’.

I’m more worried about my manicure, or rather my acrylic nails to be precise. You need a professional to remove or redo it. I’ll soon look like an old witch
