Life as a student in Lugano

Hey everyone!

I have recently received an offer from USI Lugano to study BSc in Informatics. Could you please tell me if the younger students (around 18) are friendly and if there is anything to do during the weekends?
At the moment, where I live, everyone is so friendly and I've read posts that Lugano is rather boring so I think this will be a huge change for me and I am not sure I can adapt to that easily.

I wanna know if students are open to have a "free/inexpensive fun" meaning if they hang out after school in the parks, having typical chats, just spend time with their friends without the need to spend money for just going out.

I am not looking to do something WOW during the weekends/workdays, it would be just nice to not be lonely and have someone to have regular conversation with. I've read comments saying that local students only group with themselves and international students are mainly left alone. I am planning to learn Italian so do you think that would improve my chances of getting friends?

Regarding the academic side, do you think that after finishing studies in Lugano it would be easy to move out to bigger cities such as Zurich and find a decent job, since my plan is to leave Lugano for a bigger city right after graduation. I also have an offer from an university in Antwerpen, Belgium so I have a dilemma where to go.. You have any suggestions?

Thank you so much for reading and I hope someone would answer my questions

Re: Life as a student in Lugano

I don't think Lugano is so boring in summer, there are many things to do, many bars open, all around there are mountains on which you can take nice walks during the weekend or go for a swim in the lake.
In short there are several things to do during summer. that Lugano is boring is a little myth and in my opinion it applies more during the winter, if you want to make friends we can also go drink a coffee together :-)

Re: Life as a student in Lugano

Students enjoy life wherever they are. It's a mindset.

If you go to Ticino, you'll have the benefit of being in (arguebly) the prettiest kanton in CH, with all the geographical benefits (lake activities, mountains, skiing) etc all on your doorstep, as well as Italy a few km away and fantastic weather.

If you go to Antwerp, I'm sure you'll enjoy it also.

Get on the uni websites and see what social activities and clubs they have going on.
