Thats about 1/3 of the average S&P 500 company, which is appalling from an investment point of view, Average Fundsmith company makes about 5.5 times as much as the film industry average return.
But the artistic return - priceless.

It's better than theatre. The only way to make a small fortune out of theatre is to start with a large one.

Re: Disney stops paying its staff...

I sorry I do fed up with people thinking its their job to screw other people, which seems to be the trend in society. Maybe its just the local companies I find myself surrounded by these days.

Companies that pay minimum salaries. Companies that make impossible demands of their staff asking them to put their profits before family and friends.

I worked for a company last year who offered me a short-term contract that was had in it illegal deductions. I discovered this when I passed it over to the chomage office who told them to reissue it.

They did so, without the deductions; but then refused to renew it. Who the hell is charge of HR in this organisation? Did they knowingly try to screw me. I fed up with business hiding behind itself...

HR is seldom on your side, almost always on the side of the employer, not the employee. At least that is my experience.

HR staff are not the citizens advice bureau and, as employees of the company, will always act in the best interests of the employer first. That cannot be a surprise.

Apart from initial hiring process, employee training and orientation, including Manager training etc, they are paid to ensure that the company acts within required employment laws to protect the employer from litigation.

For example, if someone complains to HR about Manager bullying and harassment, they may offer a kindly shoulder to cry on, make suggestions and take actions to make the complainant feel more comfortable in the working environment, but their override goal is to make it less likely that the employee has grounds to sue.

What is surprising is the level is dishonestly of "some" of the individuals working . A decade ago, maybe more they used to be honest. Now sadly the majority of individuals left in the industry are not.
