Swiss answer for Amazon?

I know that by now Amazon has _sort of_ entered Switzerland, but lately with the coronavirus crisis, it seems nothing ships here anymore from Amazon.

With many/most stores closed, and shopping in person a pain (waiting in lines, trying to keep distance) it would be great to find some reasonable online retailers that deliver to Switzerland in some reasonable fashion (not crazy expensive or take crazy long time to arrive).

To give an idea of what I'm thinking of, and since maybe the answers are different depending on the type of item, here is a random selection to give an idea of things I'd like to be able to buy online:

Batteries
Sunglasses
Toiletries (e.g. sunblock, soap, shampoo)
Kitchen items (pan, spatula, knives, water filter, knife sharpener even?)
Vacuum cleaner

An anecdote: About 3 months ago, I tried to order some pans from Pearl.ch. I opted to have them delivered to the local store and pick them up there to avoid the shipping charge. The estimated arrival time was 2 weeks. I went to the store about 3 weeks later and asked, and the employees said that, yes, they can confirm the order has been placed, but there was no way to know when they would arrive, and I would be contacted when they arrived. Well, maybe coronavirus has affected this, but no doubt some companies can continue to function and ship items despite the situation?

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

You could try https://www.brack.ch
for general stuff (website is in German or French) and https://www.nettoshop.ch for white goods. I've ordered from both and had no problems pre coronavirus but I imagine that their delivery dates are now a bit iffy like everywhere else.

I think Nettoshop ships appliances from Germany - they came with a German plug but you can get an adapter or just put a Swiss one on.

If you really need Amazon, you could use a German shopping address, such as https://meineinkauf.ch. Bear in mind that they charge for each parcel, so make sure multiple items get delivered as one.

Good luck!

Why don't you simply go to a shop and buy them ( at least the ones you can like batteries and toiletries )!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. To answer you, and as I already mentioned, I prefer not to, due to the inconvenience and how uncomfortable it is these days. Many bigger shops are closed right now, or portions of them are closed (e.g. the Migros here has many areas roped-off). By the time I go to 3 or 4 different shops to find the right kind of battery, hours have passed. I guess I could also ask exactly which shop to buy each individual item, but this kind of misses the point.

The point of my original question is: what online retailers exist for shoppers in Switzerland.

Unclear how long we will have to wait before being allowed to cross the border freely. These sites look promising, thanks!

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

I'm using amazon.de - from Germany.

Currently shipping is faster than Galaxus. Ordered a rake a few weeks from amazon.de, and it arrievd 3 days later.

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

I buy batteries from Digitec.ch, which is part of Galaxus. Delivery is fast again, after some weeks of bottlenecks.

Also Coop Bau+Hobby seems to have decent offers and delivery times.

Here's my issue with amazon (and maybe it's just me?):
I go to amazon.de or whatever, and they notice I'm in Switzerland (I also have my swiss address set there in my profile). Then their filter doesn't seem to work--even though I see "Deliver to Switzerland" above the results, when I go to checkout it tells me nothing will ship to Switzerland. I've tried with all sorts of things. Anyone have similar experiences or figure out how to get amazon to correctly filter the stiff they will actually ship to you?

Only buy stuff from seller amazon.de (set this in the filter) and keep in mind that not everything can be delivered to Switzerland. You see immediately when you look at the article description. I do regularly, last delivery was last week with no issues.

toppreise.ch

Even more useful if you know a specific model of the thing you want to buy and search for the cheapest store.

Try using the international Amazon, amazon.com, they usually have more products that ship to Switzerland.

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

Galaxis and Digitec have IMO by far the best search-function.

I mean, toppreise is great if you know what you want.

But say you want to look what laptops or displays with specific requirements are available - last time I looked, amazon's search was garbage.

And digitec/galaxus have meticulously catalogued and categorized almost all of their items. Not just computer-gear.

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

Deliveries are screwed up right now in corona-time, places who normally deliver in 24-48 hours are taking much longer, no guarantees. I'm still awaiting a migros (do it garden) delivery since 17th April.

digitec and microspot i use for electronics / office supplies / gadgets .. Normally they deliver next day but I've seen some 5 day waits recently.

Many "swiss" sites actually ship from elsewhere and it's not made clear during the order, like vidaxl for example, or perl, they offer a huge range at low prices but often they take 2-3 weeks to deliver and the stuff comes from NL or SE with euro-plugs attached.

We have no amazon here, nothing like it, amazon de or fr or .com sometimes deliver, some things or you can use cross border addresses but we simply have no local equivalent. Galaxus is probably closest but nowhere near the amazon service level for returns or delivery times.

Migros became the major shareholder in 2014 (having had a 30% stake since 2012). I've not noticed a decline in service in the past 6 years, quite the contrary. Maybe you've just become grumpier as you've got older.

Even before deliveries were messed up with the virus I would go on to Amazon.de, login in and they would notice I am in Switzerland and I would get the "sorry this item does not ship to Switzerland" message. None of the goods were things that would be prohibited in Switzerland (such as dog toys)

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

To add to squeezethecroc's mention of brack.ch, there's an article in yesterday's NZZ on this online distribution company. It mentions (translated):
  • Brack.ch is the largest independent Swiss online retailer
  • The former electronics retailer now offers over 200,000 products
  • Brack has built the largest logistics centre in Switzerland ... extends over almost eight football fields
  • Many of the large online shops are also Brack customers
So, even if you order from another online company in CH, it might be packed and shipped by brack.ch.

Re: Swiss answer for Amazon?

Just to go back to amazon.de: I refurbished my kitchen and bathroom and ordered most of the hardware from Germany. Some from Amazon, some from other German retailers. Most of them claimed on their websites that they wouldn't ship to Switzerland, but when I contacted them via email with my shopping list, they all said it wouldn't be a problem. The suppliers sorted out German Mehrwertsteuer and import duties and everything was delivered on time and headache-free, at least for me. One supplier checked my order for the bathroom, i.e. shower fittings, WC with water cistern and hand washbasin to make sure everything was compatible and I hadn't forgotten any gromets.

I used toppreise.ch for oven, hob, fridge and freezer, having researched the exact models I wanted. Nettoshop came out on top for most things. They weren't necessarily the cheapest, except when delivery cost were factored in.
