Recycling old microwave

Hello,

I emailed my local Gemeinde asking how I should dispose of an old microwave I bought and they told me to take it back to the place I purchased it, which was Conforama. Does anyone have any experience with this and would you know if I need to produce a receipt that shows I purchased it from this specific shop?

Thanks in advance

No you don’t need any receipt to dispose of home appliances. You can go to Fust or any other shop. I did give them back my old vacuum cleaner without questions asked and next week I am going to recycle my 10-years old coffee beans machine.

Re: Recycling old microwave

You can bring it to any place which sells microwaves. They must take it no question asked.

Or as it is said in Mica's link:

Take your waste equipment to an electrical and electronic equipment dealer that sells the same type of equipment you would like to dispose of. You do not need to present a purchase receipt nor buy new equipment to return your old device.
Very simple an effective system.

Yes very simple and effective system, but you are paying for it. An extra tax (TAR) is included in the final price.

Stores like Jumbo, OBI or Coop Bau&Hobby also have a box where you can put electronic waste comprising appliances, bulbs, batteries. No questions asked.

Exactly. If I return still working appliances to the shop maybe there will be a use of them for whatever reasons. If I dump them into the container, their functionality is next to gone for good.

If it were in other lands like Africa, people would gladly take them home.

It's an electric item. I take all those items to Mediamarkt, they got a container in the back of their building here, where I can deposit them.

So you can bring it to anywhere they collect "Elektroschrott".

Re: Recycling old microwave

I echo what everyone already said: I recently disposed of a microwave at the Migros DoIt+Garden. No questions asked. Just like you do with light bulbs or batteries.
