Sending Cubans [cigars] from CH to US?

Hey guys
did anybody tried sending cubans to US from CH? I tried googling and seems like since couple of years it's ok to bring a box of cubans with you into US for your own consumption. But I couldn't find any info about shipping them?
I wanna send my friend in Chicago a box of cubans as a birthday gift and I don't want cigars to be confiscated by the customs...

Any experiences?

I read your title and thought you meant real live Cubans, as in people

Last I knew you could bring some in your luggage for personal use and to give away, but you can't send in the mail because it's clearly not "for your personal use" and there's no guarantee the recipient isn't a seller.

Good move to change the title.

Now I wonder, why someone would buy Cuban cigars in Switzerland and send them to the US? Aren't they bound to be more expensive here?

They cannot be bought legally in the US

That's not up-to-date news:
<<2009 wurde das Embargo zum ersten Mal aufgelockert, und jüngst ein zweites, für den Zigarrenhandel entscheidendes Mal. Tabakwaren im Wert von bis zu 100$ dürfen seit dem 16. Januar 2015 in die Staaten eingeführt werden.>>
Up to $100.00 cigar import legal since January 16th, 2015. Source

Re: Sending Cubans [cigars] from CH to US?

Thanks guys. Yeah, when you said it - the title could have sounded misleading. Oh well, I guess I have a skill for a clickbaity title writing!

Thanks for the inputs. I think I will call couple of cigar shops here and maybe check with DHL or similar, they might have some experiences. It seems to be a grey area, but maybe if it's clearly just a small quantity, the customs wouldn't mind. Although I would imagine it would be very tempting for some custom officer to deny entry and bring them home

Worst case - I'll wait to gift him that until the next time I'm in US.

That information applies to Cuban cigars personally imported to the US. It remains illegal for anybody to sell them (even the small numbers personally imported) in the US.

Your link states very clearly that it is illegal to sell Cuban cigars in America.

More expensive than in Cuba, yes, but cheaper than in most other countries.

They are illegal in the US, and thus not sold there.
