Looking for a seamstress

I am engaged, and starting to think of wedding dresses, first wedding I had a navy blue and gold bodice with a gold A-line skirt. I donít do white.

As I am marrying an ex-Indian, I was thinking of wearing my motherís wedding sari (it was 1970, cultural appropriation was not understood then, and my mum still fits in her wedding dress after 50 years), but, a) cultural appropriation is a bad thing (I am not Indian, or ex-Indian), and b) some dilbert burned my mothers sari on her wedding day at the pretty end, so, after discussing it with my my mum, I have decided to get the sari re-purposed as a dress. Only, it is chiffon, and so needs a proper seamstress, or seamster I guess, to work with it.

Anybody know of anyone with experience working with chiffon saris? She still has the undershirt, but the blouse was repurposed by my mum (along with 100 yr old family lace) into my garter For my last wedding.

Congratulations on your engagement! I'm very glad for you.
Sorry, can't recommend a seamstress, though I will ask a friend of a friend...

I suppose something similar to an ex-American (like a few on this board); probably gave up Indian citizenship. But I can see the confusion on if you are looking at it ethnically or nationality.

Indeed, he had to give up Indian nationality when he got his Swiss nationality.

Was this in the distant past? I don't know anyone that had to renounce their other citizenships for Swiss citizenship.

I donít think itís the Swiss who prohibit dual nationality so I guess India does.
There are many countries who donít allow dual citizenship. I have a friend from Singapore who is married to a Swiss guy and has two Swiss children but wonít take Swiss citizenship even though she is entitled to as she would have to give up her Singaporean citizenship.

Congratulations and best of luck to you!

I'm not sure why would be such a terrible thing to wear a sari tbh. I have a friend who wore a sari at her wedding party (she actually had two dresses - one for the church and one for the party) and nobody even thought of cultural appropriation. I personally believe they both tried to embrace each other's cultures and customs and it was all beautiful and out of love. No need to justify it to some ethical commission of costumes.
Have a nice wedding, enjoy it and do as you both see fit!

Indeed, was a long time ago, and it was from Indiaís side, sadly, if he had got another commonwealth citizenship (except Pakistan) he would have been able to keep his Indian citizenship. (China and The Netherlands also make you renounce)

Awww, thanks. He is not that Indian culturally anymore either, apart from his chili addiction and appearance, he is a Bunderschwiezer.... He wants to get married in t-shirt and jeans.... We will not be doing a religious ceremony so itís a one ceremony deal.
