Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

Can anyone suggest a place to get blonde highlights in Bern and a good cut? I have naturally curly hair and find it hard to get a good haircut. I've read some posts where people have wanted blonde highlights and come out with grey ones. I'd like to avoid that! I'm also in search of a place that offers leg/bikini waxing - I can't seem to find any sort of beauty salon here? Perhaps I just don't know what to look for - nothing is obvious to me? I'd also like to know prices if possible - are these things expensive here? I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!

Re: Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

I used to highlight my own hair, from the different boxes you find in Coop. I never had problems with it looking grey, but it did dry out my hair a lot. I started dying the bottom darker instead, it helped a lot because the wash out dye's dont damage your hair nearly as much as bleach... just a tip to think about. As for where to get a waxing... i have no clue, but ill ask around.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a little bit nervous about doing it myself but I just may have to give it a go. Thanks again!

I know what you mean - although the last time I did it myself it turned orange but that was a long time ago!

Re: Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

Hi there,

I too was worried but i got lucky as they have a Toni and Guy here in Zurich. http://www.toniandguy.com/DABF8/SALON_FINDER.aspx I've just had my blonde highlights done for the first time here and they are probably the best they have every been done eveness and colour fantastic!

If you are really having a problem finding somebody in Bern and don't mind travelling i would strongly recommend getting your hair done here. It ain't worth the risk!

He is a German guy his name is Dieter. Perfect English and his title its senior technician. As for the cut most of the other people in the salon speak very good English and are trained obviously in the Toni and Guy way. They seem very professional and the haircuts they were doing at the time i was there looked really good.

Expect to pay around London prices.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That sounds really good. I'll have a look if there is one in Bern otherwise I might just have to head to Zurich. I'm not familiar with London prices (I'm from Australia) so would you mind giving me a rough idea? Thanks so much.

Re: Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

i havent had the guts to get my hair done here. In Oz they charged me $280 for wash, colour, few foils ( and i mean like 5), cut, blowdry and treatment (yes i also have long hair)... but from the prices i have seen here im sure i will get a bigger bill in Zurich!!
what ive done the last few times is i get it cut when i go on holidays in the south of europe.. one of the best hairdressers charges me 45 Euros... and great hairdresser, so for the same cost i get a holiday too
otherwise go to Italy and get it done there, cant be expensive as here.

This always makes me laugh

Lots of Zürich ladies go to Niall Wykes and are very happy, he's Irish and so speaks English (obviously)

Edit: Reply to Cosmicgirl, I'm aware the OP is looking for Bern.

Re: Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

No Probs ..just so u dont get a nasty surpriseee when u go to pay but for colour and cut ur looking minimum 200. Even mens are expensive. My Bfd pays like 50-60 francs for his cut, and he has short hair.. this price is unheard of in Oz.
There are also a few other threads on this site about hairdressers. I found them useful. i guess im lucky i have dark hair, so re/growth isnt too much of an issue, can hold out a few months till im on holidays somehwere. hehee

Re: Hair Colour & Wax in Bern

Hello...I recommend Vogue in Bern. I have always been pretty happy with colour and cuts there. I see Manuela who speaks good English.

I also think Aerni in Bern are good...they are a beauty salon, clothes shop and cafe all in one. I think they do waxing too. They are a bit more expensive than Vogue though. Some of their staff speak English.

I think both Aerni and Vogue have website that have their prices on so you can check them out beforehand. I am used to getting my hair cut and coloured in London and Spain, so the prices here are a bit of a shock!

Hope this helps!

Mrs P, who is very pernickety about appearance goes to the Upstairs Coiffure in Bern Bahnhof (top level). The chap you want is Peter Pfistner apparently. Cut is anywhere between 75-90 francs, higlights another 90 chuffs.

You can also try http://www.sistersofscissors.com/ Sisters of Scissors in Lorraine, Bern. They are fantastic hairdressers and the prices are good.
For waxing, plucking, pruning I usually go to Doorway above the Body Shop on Marktgasse in Bern. It's not the cheapest place probably but I like it as they use natural products and give a killer facial!

Doorway does not have a website as such but if you go to the BodyShop in Bern, Doorway is just upstairs. I don't remember how much I paid last time, sorry about that.
