How long does it take to receive a letter?
 

Hi,


I am in Geneva. I just accepted an apartment and the regie said they mailed the lease agreement by post on Thursday.


They asked me to send back the signed lease by Monday but it's Sunday night and I still haven't received anything in the mail yet. How many days does it usually take to deliver a letter? Should I be concerned or is this a normal waiting time?

Normally, if the sender has sent it A (express) it should be next day or max. two days - so you should have received it on Saturday, at the latest, and then swiftly signed and resent it on the same day so they get it Monday.

I suggest you call them on Monday morning and ask what has happened to the letter, as you have not received it yet.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

It depends on the method used. A post would usually be delivered on Friday or Saturday. There's no delivery on Sundays. B post would usually be delivered Monday or Tuesday.

Where did they send the agreement? To a friend, a business, etc.? If your name isn't on the mailbox of a private residence, it could wind up being sent back.

Call them and ask them to email you what was in the letter. Then sign it and hand deliver it to their office.

"A" is not "Express". "A" is just "Priority".

OK, mystery solved. I called the regie and they were puzzled as well. They said to wait one more day and if the letter still doesn't arrive then to come to their office to sign the papers.


It turns out the letter was not delivered because my name is not on the mailbox, even though I included the main tenant's name with c/o. Lesson learned. At least I am moving to my own place so I will never have to deal with c/o addresses again.
