Who is really rich?

The people on 120k+ wages or this guy?

For me Christoph Trummer is a truly rich guy and winning the battle of life. Perfectly matches my goat shed vision!

More of him-

Re: Who is really rich?

You guys are forgetting the "+" next to the 120k. I did not want to alienate the poor starving people of the forum by setting the obvious 450k+ as the base

Axa, I read about that other guy but nah! Too many duties!

"Daum’s duties include keeping the gorge and its surrounding chapels clean, and assisting with events such as weddings and baptisms, as well as advising day-trippers."

Probably can't smoke cannabis either. Not pure and duty free like Christoph. Once I get my Swiss citizenship in a few years time, I will definitely give it a go. If I do it now the Swiss will kick me out!

And you are forgetting that people ask if they can survive on such an amount. People who ask questions like that don‘t see themselves as rich.

Re: Who is really rich?

I just received a bill of 470 CHF from a painter who came to fill approximately 20 holes in the roof for the lights and white patching 6-7 spots on the wall. As I am switching the apartment. The bill says 3 hours of work x 115 CHF. 1/2 hour of travel time to the apartment x 115 CHF.

Bottom line, with this rate even a painter is making more than 120K per year. So it might be easy to discuss 'Who is NOT really rich in Switzerland'

Rich is when you have a skyscraper named after you, are a star in a tv show, marry a model and become president

This man is lucky to be able to have the life he has ... I would consider the freedom and the ability to do what he is doing makes him a rich man. Most of us don't have that option.

As someone who grew up poor, what defines wealth to me is: a clean, safe home with running hot water and electricity, a full grocery cart filled with a variety of healthy foods and the ability to fall asleep at night without the fear of someone taking everything from you if you miss paying a bill or if you lose your job. Of course love and health in your life matter too ... but there was plenty of that in my life growing up and it still wasn't enough to feel safe in this world.

You told me you grew up in a lower middle class household! That must mean a different thing to what it does in the UK

If kids are doing bad then do you automatically become poor? You do realize that good health is not permanent?

From your list I would say good health is the most important, good partner is icing on the cake. Kids, you can be rich/happy with or without. I appreciate your sentiment though

Christoph, the subject of this thread on the other hand has no real partner, no kids. The more attachments you have in life the more complicated and heavy life becomes

The painter might not have constant flow of work. Also, he might not find someone like you to rip off daily I doubt he makes 120k.

Re: Who is really rich?

I was 10 years in Switzerland.

120k seems a lot of money until you start dating

Back to Portugal and yes it is a local culture in Switzerland that makes people talk about money all time.

Here even water and coffee is ok for a date. Not fancy dinner, ski, spa day whatever.

If you date a lot...the usual for zurich 120k is nothing

Did I? You have a good memory. Well yes, it does make a difference USA vs UK...especially when it comes to healthcare.

My childhood was rather contradictory - I was able to go to private schools due to scholarships, but all of the things I mentioned were issues - except we did have electricity & most of the time good food was on the table. I starved more when I was out of college and working through a recession.

Re: Who is really rich?

Back to guy in the video, he's healthy and can afford to live a minimalistic life.

The attachments talk is a bit superficial. Everyone of us is attached to a mindset and I don't expect the hermit to have a head devoid of ideas. Material things can be left behind, but good luck trying to let go the ideology that motivated you to do that
