Re: Throwing away general trash

When I clean out stuff I don't want any more, such as old mugs, plates, cutlery, kitchen items etc, I usually bring them to the brocki. So far they have never turned down any item I presented them with.

I even brought them an old microwave and vacuum cleaner. Both still working but so old that I struggle to see anybody wanting to use them. But I guess the staff there know best.

Excess furniture I have advertised a few items here on the Ef and so far I have always found a taker.

Broken stuff I sometimes bring to the cargo tram. No quibbles so far.

Polystyrene I bring to work where there is a recycling place for that.

Clothes and other textiles go into the textile collection boxes.

Sounds like you agree with me. You call it dense, I call it tiny.

I found a way to crumble polystyrene without messing up the entire flat, since then I put it in the trash bags.
But white polystyrene can be recycled, so that's a different case anyway.

Yes but I have to store it (bulky), then bring it in (did I mention bulky?) and THEN they charge me! Admittedly by weight so it's not the price I argue. Still, I don't pay for stuff they then sell on. I think one side paying is enough, I already do (their) separation work.

Please avoid taking electrical items to the dump. Take them back to any shop that sells electrical items.

By law we pay an extra tax when purchasing these goods and it is the shop’s responsibility to take back all of these goods. Not only the products they sold, but all such products even if bought overseas.

If we all did this I suspect we would see a vast improvement in product quality and longevity. We also need more options for product repair.
Perhaps this?

Regretfully nothing like that on La Côte, closest is Murten.

Here we don't get charged for polystyrene, as it's recyclable it's free to dispose of.

It's bulky, but having a house with a big oil tank room I just chuck it on top of the tank and take it to the recycling centre when I have something else to take.

In which cantons do they give the option to use the stickers? I can't find any info about it, canton Vaud. That's very interesting as the white bags don't fit into my trash bin so I use black bags anyway which I later push into the white bag, inconvenient but I am too lazy to go through the hassle to find a trash bin matching the size of the official white bag.
I don't think Vaud has the sticker system. Mind you there are still a few communes that still haven't adopted the taxed white bags either. Also check out what your dechetterie will take. That varies from one commune to the next and it might be a way of reducing the volume of trash you have.

Winterthur area still has stickers but I have the impression they are only for "Sperrgut" (bulky stuff which wouldn't fit a bag and furniture etc.). I don't think they would take a bag with a sticker on it. Might be worth a try, I still got some which are 5 years old (they would work for bulk still).
