Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

I have a wardrobe that no one seems to want (even for free!). I hate to throw it away, but I don't know of anywhere that would accept it (disassembled) as a donation. It seems the local Brockis and the Salvation Army don't accept furniture.

Any tips? I live in Adliswil but could bring it somewhere reasonably close (Zurich city, Silver Coast).

Forget it. We tried the same, not even the charities want that stuff.

Re: Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

I think someone mentioned contacting refugee centers in another thread. Might be worth a shot, especially if you can deliver.

Try

they'll collect it for free as well if they want it.

Don't know about ZH, but here Emmaus and Caritas are the normal places.

Re: Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

First, try placing a simple ad here: https://www.englishforum.ch/free-stuff/

Donating a furniture in Zürich is a painful process, better try to sell it "ab 1 Frank". For charities and Brocki dealing with any inexpensive piece of furniture potentially cost more, than any profits they could get from it.

Sometimes, for good looking and not extra bulky pieces the easiest way to get rid of them is to put it on the side of the street with a "Gratis" sign and wait for a couple days (never try it with any chance of a bad weather, though).

If you are willing to put some work into placing a nice ad (meaning you put some love in it, not just "don't want this bulky outdated piece of furniture") somewhere on Tutti (or Ricardo, or Anibis, or some FB group), then you have a shot with finding a home to it. Also, if it has any brand behind it, especially some Swiss brand, it may even bring you some money to donate.

Re: Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

I also try my best to find a new home for furniture in good condition, but my experience with some of the charitable places was that when they arrive, they give you the impression they don't want to take it, then offer to remove it for you for a fee. Of course, you have no way of knowing if they resell it after taking your money. Maybe their reasoning is that if you're desperate, you'll pay. The other option is simply to look for removal companies that come and collect the stuff you don't want for a fee.

Re: Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

Let me see if I understand correctly. You are have a free wardrobe, you have taken it apart and are willing to deliver it nearby and you cannot rehome it?

Where have you advertised?

As you do not have 10 posts yet here, (that's the rule) you cannot place an ad here.

Shortly before we moved we managed to sell wardrobes and the buyers took them apart and carried them out to their vehicles. Some people prefer to take wardrobes apart so they can see how they are assembled.

I have taken wardrobes apart in the past and I mark the pieces just in case it isn't clear what goes where, even if instructions are available.

Some people put unwanted wardrobes in the cellars when they move to a new place and use them for storage. Just an idea in case you really can't rehome it.

Re: Where to donate furniture in Kanton Zurich?

I've advertised it on Facebook, tutti, and Ricardo. I've also posted it to a local mailing list. I plan to post it here as well, once I meet the requirements. I'm as surprised as you are that there hasn't been interest, since it's in perfectly good shape. I haven't taken it apart yet, but am willing to do so.

I haven't indicated a willingness to deliver in the advert, since I would prefer not to. A friend of mine is willing to lend me their van to transport it to the garbage collection center if I can't find another home for it, but I can't ask them to be on call to deliver it somewhere else in the Kanton :-\
