Does distributing flyers requires a license?

Hi all,

My wife is selling some products imported from Italy and she would like to distribute some flyers in post boxes.

Question is, would this require a license or some sort of authorization? My understanding is that, if she would distribute them on public streets, the flyers should be authorized/review first from police. Not sure it is a requirement for post box distribution as well.

Thanks!

Re: Does distributing flyers requires a license?

Not sure tbh- you need to ask you own Commune/Gemeinde.

But you risk scrutiny on the provenance of the goods, how they were imported, and about taxes and import duties paid, etc- if it falls in the 'wrong' hands. I'd be very careful.

Re: Does distributing flyers requires a license?

No license required (or other specific legal restrictions to be considered) to drop in mailboxes. But you want to avoid antagonising those people, so it's probably useful to respect "keine Werbung" stickers and such.

However, handing them out on public ground is a different thing. Zürich city requires a license, other cities and communes probably as well. See here für Zürich, they can also tell you whether the paragraph is correct. Feedback welcome

Thanks for your answers! She imports them via TNT so all good are declared and import duties are paid. I think we will go ahead and distribute them, possibly considering the request to avoid spam

But please respect the pas de pub notices.

I’m sure your product is wonderful but I don’t want even more recycling.

It probably will reduce the number of complaints you get, so a win-win.

I think you are allowed to, but as others have said, please obey the 'Please no advertisements' (Bitte keine Werbung) stickers that people put on their mailbox for a reason. There is no quicker way to anger your potential customers than ignoring their wishes.

To be honest, I would never buy anything advertising in my letter box.

Me too, any junk that's in my mail box goes straight in the bin. For promotion I would set up some SM pages and get friends to share them, you'll soon pick up some fans and orders that way.

If people cannot be bothered to respect the "no ads" on my mailbox, I put their flyer into an envelope and send it back to them. Without a stamp and without a return address. This way, they pay.

If we all were to do this for those who don't respect the notice, it would start to cost them

Re: Does distributing flyers requires a license?

Maybe you can work together with the companies that buy your second hand jewelry, the pizza delivery service and the mattress discounter that all ignore the "no advertisement" stickers
