Ice Cream Machine: Domo vs Betty Bossi

Hi everyone. I've been looking into buying an ice cream machine (just in time for the warmer weather ).

You get machines with and without compressors. I would like one with a compressor since I don't have a large freezer, and it is almost full most of the time anyway! (machines without compressors require you to pre-freeze the mixture).

My budget is in the range of 200-250.-, so when I originally did some research the Cuisinart ICE100 seemed to have a great price/quality ratio and great reviews (Link to an article comparing ice cream machines with compressors)

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available in Switzerland, France or Germany. The only Cuisinart machines available around here are the ones without compressors.

So I looked into what's available locally, and came up with two options:

Link to Option 1 (Domo D09201l)

Link to Option 2 Betty Bossi Cremosa)

Both seem to have good (but limited) reviews, comparable prices and similar specifications. They have about 2l of capacity (which in reality means you can get 1-1.2l of ice cream out in a batch) and require approx 1 hour of operation (pre-cooling followed by processing the mixture).

The question is, are any of you familiar with either product and is there any strong advantage that one has over the other?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

You might also look at machines where you don't need to freeze the entire bowl, but just a thick removeable disk that sits in the bottom of it. I can't remember the make of ours, but the disk as around 3cm thick, so doesn't take up very much freezer space at all.

Never used one with a compressor, but ours works perfectly well enough. Best/quicker if you pre-chill the custard before the churning process, but that's true for all machines really.

I've had a Simac (Italian) since '92, with compressor.
