Office Chair for home office

Hi guys,

I am tired of upper back pain with my awful office chair for home office, so I wanted to buy a good chair.
I wanted to get a ergohuman chair which I tried from a coworker, but I really can't find anywhere to buy it.
The same for other recommended chairs like herman miller for example.
Any ideas on where can I get one of these chairs or a similar one with good upper back support (headrest is a plus)?

All I see is really expensive chairs with really fancy designs, but I care 0 about the design, I just want something ergonomic to sit for 8h so my back doesn't hurt that much.

Also, spending 1000chf on a chair, I would like to try it first, but I think that won't be really possible, specially with COVID.

Thanks in advance

Why not? most shops are now open again.

Giroflex 64, they are fantastic ergonomic desk chairs and widely used in Swiss offices. https://www.ricardo.ch/de/a/buerostu...64-1167580042/

Can you point me some? I've visited Livique, conforama and they don't have anything the quality I'm looking for, they have chairs that are OK for sitting for a while, but not for a 9h working session. The quality of the chairs I tried there are not btter than an IKEA markus chair.
I'm looking more for a high end chair herman miller aeron style / ergohuman chair.

Seems a little bit on the lower end of what I'm looking for but I would give it a try. What shop do they sell these so I could try it? I live around Bern

Re: Office Chair for home office

This is what my company buys for us at home ..
I find it very supportive on the back..

However I don't sit there for 8-9 hours at a time.. More like an hour then i move, just like being in the office.

Only downside is i prefer the mesh type seat cushion that doesn't store fart

Re: Office Chair for home office

herman-miller is overrated, I took it because it was reimbursed by my employer but it took me like two weeks to adjust to it to be able to sit for more than an hour in a row. Maybe I'm taking it wrong, maybe the "ergonomic" part in it stands for "we designed it to be so uncomfortable that you'll frequently stand up which is the actual health benefit"

Re: Office Chair for home office

I ordered one from Lista Office, they supply the company that I work for and will deliver (took mine about 10 days to arrive). They will also supply with different types of rollers, depending on what type of floor you have.

Re: Office Chair for home office

I have the Steelcase Please. Had it for years and it's very good and sturdy.

Just bough a second one (now hubby and I each need own desk, before we shared the home office) and it was half price at WSA during the homemoffice promotion.

https://wsa.ch/de/produkte/buroeinri...rand=steelcase

If you like it maybe you want to ask them if still have and price?

Re: Office Chair for home office

That is not what OP is asking for, but that is my personal recipe:

A sitzball with a cover and an adjustable desk.

For me that appears to be the only way to work for many hours without pain, numbness in the back or neck or dizziness. It is largely related to the fact, that I use multiple display setup, which requires regularly looking up and even looking from a distance sometimes.

Re: Office Chair for home office

OH decided to invest in a standing desk last year, he bought the IKEA motorised one and has both an office chair and a stool on 3 legs that pivots when you sit on it. Invaluable purchases for him as he has had a lower back problem since he was in his early 20s. His office is moving to premises where they'll all have standing desks when it's safe to go back.

That was obviously a used chair on an auction site which is a third of the new price. Google for new ones from Swiss stores. Example here https://www.chairzone.ch/de/giroflex...D_BwE#farbe=56

Re: Office Chair for home office

The Herman Miller Aeron chair is available in CH but the price point is at the high end.

Here is a retailer in Geneva that seems to have a physical store. You could ask them if they have models you can try.

Link: https://shop.svconcept.ch/5-aeron?_g...763.1618164048

Keep in mind that the Aeron comes in 3 sizes - A, B, C (or at least the last time I bought some). You want to get the right one for your height and weight/body size.

Here is the sizing chart from an American site that is half-way down this page: https://www.crandalloffice.com/blog/...u-should-know/

That's definitely a matter of opinion about a design that's acknowledged to be a classic. The Herman Miller Aeron is certainly not over-rated by me. I've used mine every day for about 15 years (and it was bought second-hand then, so who knows how old it actually is) and it's as comfortable and as solid now as the day I got it. I can happily sit in it for 12 hours or more without any problem. If it took you 2 weeks to adjust it, something just doesn't sound right. If and when mine disintegrates, I'll go straight out and buy another. Best chair ever in my experience, but very obviously we are not all shaped the same so it may not suit everyone.

I second that, the Aeron is hands down the best all-around office chair I've tried to date.

Re: Office Chair for home office

Indeed I started to be worried about that, but honestly I don't exhibit any huge posture anomalies. Quite the contrary, I'm rather skinny not fat but also not athletic posture.

Regarding the build quality, that's top class. I am sure this chair will survive a lot.

I've written to HM just asking how to adjust it and maybe confirm that there's no defect in my chair. It turned out that everything's fine. The problem which I see is the lack of the seat elevation adjustment - it's fixed. I feel well on flat chairs with flat seat, where all HM chairs seems to have seats fixed at ~10º angle leaning backward. It's comfortable to dodge yourself but when you want to sit straight to do some work it's annoying. You can unlock the position "lean forward position" which brings the seat into horizontal level but unfortunately the backrest will push you out of the chair as the angle between the seat and the backrest is fixed, it's one nonadjustable unit.

On a fun side, the comfort of the chair resembles very much the seats of the old small car, Fiat 126. I know it was years ago, but somehow the HM chair brings the memory.

WTF... I have never seen a chair with a split back, very interesting. I am really wondering how that works to properly support your back... Need to Google it.

For me - awesome-ly!
Apparently they are stating something about the spine itself being "free", but the systems around it are supported by the two wings.
I love it.

Re: Office Chair for home office

Maybe a bit far for OP to travel - I recently got home office furniture from this place:

https://www.tradingzone.ch/

They have new / pricey stuff as well as good quality used furniture. The nice part is they have loads of chairs and tables together and you can try them all. If you spend enough, you get free delivery - I couldn't find the page with that part on the website so maybe give them a call.

Cheers,
Nick
