UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

Doing some research covering the period of around 1 year, since July 2020-June 2021 and travel between CH and UK/Wales during this period for the purposes of reunitinig with children (for any length of time) and whether this was at any point possible as have opposite assertions that it was not, without the quarantine at either end.

Anyone knows first hand or knows if there is such data publicly available?

All advice greatfully received.

Re: UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

I don't know if there is any UK "Quarantine list history", the Swiss publish all previous lists https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...nde/liste.html.

I went to the UK for a weekend early August 2020, no tests or quarantine were required.

Re: UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

There was a window in July/August last year (maybe as early as June) where it was possible to visit the UK without quarantine or tests at either end.

Yep... quarantine restrictions were lifted on 10th June 2020 for people arriving from Europe.

We were also on holiday in Wales for the first two weeks of August, and did not have to take tests or quarantine in either direction. I think things tightened up again in September.

They tightened up on August 27th, the day our grandsons were born which put paid to our planned trip over.

Re: UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

I haven't visited my 96 year old father since the beginning of August last year, which was pretty much the last window when both the UK and CH were mutually open.
I'm now dual-vaccinated, which gives me hassle-free travel to some neighbouring countries, but the UK doesn't recognize vaccines yet. Hopefully sometime this summer the UK will come out of its BREXIT huff and let people back into the country again.

Not letting vaccinated people in Europe in is mad. They've got herd immunity already from the variants here already (or at least they are very close) - over 80% of British adults have antibodies.

Re: UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

According to the Travelcheck site, people from the UK are allowed to travel to the Switzerland without quarantine etc if they've been fully vaccinated.

The site lists the valid vaccines, but doesn't indicate what proof is required / acceptable. As far as I can see neither does the BAG or the SEM site.

Is this info available, does anyone have a link?

My dads coming tomorrow and has the nhs app and a printout. I'll let you know if we encounter any problems.

He's one of the ones who have a Serum Institute of India first jab and an AZ second jab - hope this isnt problematic...

Travelcheck says the vaccines must be EU, CH, or WHO approved, so if it is WHO approved he should be OK

Many countries have said they will accept the SSI AZ jab

“But nine European countries - Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, Estonia and Switzerland - are said to be ready to accept the India-made version of the AstraZeneca jab”. https://www.google.ch/amp/s/news.sky...cheme-12347238

One thing to remember though is that as Switzerland is still on the UK Amber list he will not be covered medically by any UK travel insurance..

My worry is that it's 1 of each, which probably isn't approved. I would hope for a bit of a sense of perspective (given they are the same thing really), but a bit worried they'll follow the Ordung to the letter of the law.

We looked into this - you can optional add on to cover amber.

That is really good news - I hope that you have a wonderful time with your Father. Can I ask which company your Father used as we are desperate to come over as car stuck up at our place, and haven't seen daughter and family for a year. Insurance is a big thing for us as post brexit we can't use our EHIC in Switzerland anymore and as OH was so ill with covid we have to have some cover but I couldn't find any company to cover us.

Re: UK TO CH Travel possibilities in Corona times

Hi

How did your Dad get on using the NHS app and printout to demonstrate his vaccination status?

I ask as I plan to do this next week and want to be as sure as possible this will be accepted as appropriate evidence to be exempted from quarantine.

Many thanks for any insights you can share!
