Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

My kids came across it.. Really cheap clothing, a bit like Primark in the UK.

Anybody used them? Shipping times etc? I expect the quality to be like Primark, almost disposable.

I ordered a few things for the kids to see how goes.

Seems like the wish .com of clothing.

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

I have pre-teen daughters and they think it's the best thing ever.

In my view, it is like a website that has pre-selected from AliExpress the latest "in" stuff for your kids.

Delivery is also like AliExpress. 20 days from China...

Doesn't sound very ethical.

Perhaps okay for kids clothes. My kids can destroy new clothes in a couple of hours if they put their mind to it.

Pretty much what I though.. My kids love it. I've only made one order for them, around 50chf .. but they got lots for that..

I say that as a rather flippant remark..Disposable.
But kids do indeed go through stuff quickly .. We receive stuff from friends, we pass stuff on to others and the rest goes in the TexAid box at the decheterie..
I gave eight 35l bags to TextAid a couple of weeks ago. But most of the stuff we have does get a second or third life somewhere.

I'm sure unless one is specifically buying carefully ethically sourced clothes they are mostly made under similar conditions ..

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

It's pretty much as you describe: fairly disposable on trend fashion that doesn't break the bank and isn't designed to really last out more than a couple of seasons. I've used it a few times. What is good about it are the review sections (very honest) and the sizing information for each item (accurate). I'd say quality falls somewhere between New Look and H&M.

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

For anyone interested in a deep-dive into Shein the company, here's an article I came across recently on SupChina (a very au courant think-tanky US-based media site focusing on contemporary China):

https://supchina.com/2021/06/09/a-lo...hion-industry/

In short, it is a serious player in the booming business of "fast fashion" (among others like Asos, Zara, Mango, and aforementioned H&M and Primark), an industry that shows no signs of slowing in spite of the efforts of the sustainable fashion movement.

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

(Could anyone kindly explain why "Shein" and "Asos" typed in plain-text in my comment above automatically show up as hyperlinks without my having linked to those sites? The edit was an attempt to correct that, to no avail.)

I just heard about this shop from some teenagers too. It looks like Zalando has got some competition.

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

Is this the kind of shop where I need to sign up and give them all my details first before I can even check if I find it interesting?

I can't see anything but teasers.

Yep, I read an article about it in the FT I think, and then I introduced it to my girls as a way of getting them to spend less...

Nope - you should be able to just browse.

Edit: just seen John H's response saying same thing!

This is an English language site. I understood the French but I'm not sure what your point was.

Re: Anybody used SHEIN (shopping site)

My daughter shops with Shein and Romwe. It is a legitimate e-commerce.

The quality is average, the sizes are usually spot on.

It’s fast fashion, the prices are very low, and it takes a couple of weeks to be delivered.

Their clothing is disposable.

Clothing manufacture is highly polluting, packaging is wasteful and they have low (allegedly) standards in ensuring that child labour is not used in their supply chain.

I want my daughter to be able to take and own decisions and I tolerate, rather than encourage her online shopping with Shein.

While of French origin, it's part of American English.

You're welcome.

Honestly, I can't. I get to the homepage, I click let's say ladies, I get pictures when I click them I get to the product but everything is just grey squares .... where one suspects the photo to be, the description ..... only grey squares.
