Police inspection

Hi,

I live in a house that has a large communal garden in the middle. Today, there was a police inspection of sorts. 2 policemen were standing at the entrance to the yard, while a third one with a different uniform was walking around with a dog, presumably sniffing at the doors to the ground-floor apartments.

Any ideas what this could be about? I suspect someone called the police on our pothead neighbors, but the situation seems weird to me.

You should have asked them, now we'll never know.

I think you answered your own question, especially considering the dog. They usually overlook people having a single plant but if there's more, they typically jump into action. In other news: I wish someone would develop weed that doesn't stink so bad...

Re: Police inspection

I'm not up on the latest regulations. Is it not still technically illegal to smoke weed, even though it might not be to possess it? Drug dogs would go crazy at our house.

Re: Police inspection

We once took the train from Zurich to Lugano, with a bunch of fresh dope from my stepson (maybe a kg).

Very fresh, so even triple bagged it reeked.

I always wondered what happened when the train got to the border (it was continuing to Milano)

Re: Police inspection

Don't think, that a police dog would waste its time for just smokers. If a farming operation is investigated, then it would be much more serious reason.
Although, when I last time saw three woodies and a foxhound was in a motel at I-95, and they (allegedly successfully) were looking for some freezer with human body parts.

I imagine that's not an uncommon find at I-95...

Re: Police inspection

Could have been training for the dog, although I would think they would have notified the residents in advance.

As mentioned I think it’s unlikely they’d pulling a dog out just for some pot smokers. Other drugs maybe, but not just possession of marijuana. Heck I could do the scenting for that myself if they’d like xD that stuff STINKS.

That being said—We observed a home robbery once, at night when there was a local game on so the whole village was out at the field. Small village so many homes left unlocked. We saw the guys avoid the automatic outdoor lights and slip into the garden around the back so we called the cops. Unfortunately they arrived just after the thieves had left the garden but we got a bit of a look at them waiting for the train and so did another woman. Anyway, when the police came they brought a young dog with them but since the whole village had come and gone by the house to get to the game, the dog really didn’t get far. Besides, we’d seen them on the platform so they didn’t really need the dog in the end. Never did find out if they got caught or not.

Did you actually see the dog sniffing? Not all police dogs are trained for scent work, and drug sniffing dogs are often not used for persons search, drug versus explosives training are rarely crossed over and there are also purely protective police dogs with no other job than to look terrifying and run take down the bad guy when told. If no search and rescue volunteers are available in an area a police dog trained to do persons search can and will be used to track say an Alzheimer’s patient or a child with Autism who has wandered off.

Re: Police inspection

Yeah, I probably should have asked them.

I would think they don't have the right to enter a yard with a gate without a good reason.

Good reason OR permission.

They may well have the latter from the landlord and/or residents group.

Do you think they’d waste their time prowling around in a garden, if they didn’t have a good reason? There are more enjoyable ways to while away their time if they don’t have anything to do.

You know a few potheads living there, saw a dog working and assume it’s drugs. But dogs can be used for other work perhaps they were looking for a body for all you know.
