I was answering a previous poster who said that it is much worse than it used to be. Maybe it has got worse, I don't know, but my point was that I don't remember it ever being a wholly happy-clappy, friendly place, especially to new members. There's always been a very grumpy fringe of cliquey, long-time users. But it's true that there has also always been a majority of helpful, pleasant members, and long may that continue.

The death of the forum was announced every single time somebody flounced, since like...eons ago. And it is standing. Hotel California could learn from us. The waves of people leaving are seasonal, so are those who want to dictate mods how to "punish", how long for and how fast the mods should react. There is no panic, stuff gets addressed and as well as we can.

I don't think people are addicted to arguing. Maybe the thrill of the internet hasn't worn off yet, anxiousness that people can share, etc. etc. The intensity is no surprise, considering we are in the midst of a pandemics.

We are open to positive ideas of improvement - bitcoins for rep points, or new subforums... EF Tinder (Finkum, I am winking at ya!), etc.

Longest Friday Flounce thread I have seen...

And don't forget that most of the posts creating so much traffic over the past few months are in the Off Topic section (where this thread should be moved to now).

EF still provides a lot of info to people who are looking for help coping with the challenges that CH poses. After being around for yrs, some of us come for banter, debate and the lulz... I left Zurich 10yrs ago and still hang out! Maybe I need to find another hobby.

For those of you bringing up Mark, I think he would be amused to see the various directions his EF has traveled over the yrs. There are others here who knew him better than I did who may (or may not) chime in. However, I don't really think it is appropriate to invoke his memory whenever this type of thread pops up. JMO

We can all agree on "It was better before" :p I mean everything;) even nutella or coca-cola, or those fragrant chewing gums from the 80ties ;)

The thing is , it's all about your perception..So people who joined the forum 10y ago were younger, they were excited about certain things, great enthusiasm about everything..And of course many years after you get fed up with the same thing then some newcomers with their same questions answered million times, then some new people who think they know better etc etc.. You yourself you're not the same person as 10y ago how come a forum should be. ?
Especially how things are accelerating.. technology, propaganda, new normal.. (have you noticed how everything that's supposed to be at least a real article is with a paywall or everything else is with millions of ads or a blocker for your blocker for ads, anyhow all papers -intellectual property is corporate and is their to tell you what to think is important etc..) then most forums, platforms are dead , FB has taken it all .. I want to say , the internet has changed to so much it's frightening and there's a law proposal in france to even control our use of internet (like a social credit system, you get a warning then no internet for you, paying fines just like in traffic ) :D

It's true also how there's this fashion of snowflaking ;)) everyone is ofended by something :)) Yesterday I had to do a lot of shopping and post office and I was going in the car getting out of it ,going in the shop then out, hundreds of times and I had the mask on/off/on/off and at one stage I was driving and I wanted to put it on (me the professional anti-masker) and I said to myself , "omg I totally Susie-O-Queued today" thinking of my Susie here :o ... and I thought , I better not say this on the forum how I'm susie-o-queuing when running errands, she might get upset and offended that I dare to think about her and the masks ;))

Again, we've come to that stage when even some basic banter and a joke is taking a risk when on contrary as we get older we should be much more relaxed, unfettered, liberated ...

I've tried reading her posts but find them hard to follow due to the lack of proper punctuation and fake-angry gabbling... tricky to make any sense of whatever nonsense it is they're banging on about.
It does make a lot of sense, actually, and it is hilarious. Just not within the Twitter attention span fornat.

She makes up for it by hot slender hands and nail photos, though.

Easy, you have a quick look at their post history.

From a thread called Breast Feeding, June 2016, post #126. She also refers to her husband and having a girl child elsewhere.
Afraid I can't work out how to link to a particular post.

Yet another long winding discussion.
We’re lab rats and this is all just a long-running social experiment.

As for you HickvonFrick…. those 50s, 60s oldtimers were young whippersnappers in their own right in their 30s & 40s when this forum started! :)
We were complaining and litigating here when you were just a boy learning at your mama’s knee.
A little respect for the ancients please!
We know how to train-wreck debates efficiently.

What else have they got to write about? They’ve exhausted Brexit to the COVID stuff us all that’s left.

Every post has its number shown in the top right corner, it's #207 for this post. With a browser on a PC, right-click and copy link address, which you insert in your post to link it. Other machines / OS are likely to work in a similar fashion.

Not at all, I just was curious why you asked a question as you clearly knew the answer.
