Re: Deleting My Account

Does "deleting one's account" mean all the posts are also deleted? Not sure why anyone would want to do that.
I mean, if I ever decided I'd really really had enough I'd just stop posting. The dilemma then though is if I make a post to tell everyone I'm no longer posting, or not.

Your decision, you can choose to ask that your posts are deleted under EU legislation or choose not to.

I thought this only applied to personal information, and that that's the reason why mods are to remove any and all from the posts. Thus people can have their account deleted but not their posts. Otherwise far too many threads would become unreadable.

If somebody said "German cars are good", that is not the same as saying "all German cars are good". It says, in general and overall if you ignore the exceptions, German cars are good. Or maybe "German automobile engineering is good", or maybe just "I like German cars"

It is complex, the regulation says that any information that can be used to identify the author must be removed so, for example, if you were posting in reply to a post that named you...
On the other hand, most people use aliases here so is an alias actually personal information?

Rather than acknowledge and attempt to understand the issue, you immediately go on the defence. And the current mods wonder why there is a mass exodus ... or perhaps they don't care.

Please try harder, thanks very much.

There is a member who pops in on regular basis to tell us that she will not log in again.
Try that?

Some people casually drop information about themselves, their work, their hobbies or other activities. Some members also meet in real life or on facebook or whatever. So with such a large number of reference points it is not totally impossible that at least in some cases some of us could hypothetically work out who they are.

In fact for some of us our identities are no secret at all because they advertise their business activities here. For example the gentleman with the cheese shop, or the lady with the B&B.

A little perspective here.

Meaning of the word Nazi:

1) A member of the National Socialist Worker's Party of Germany. This party was dissolved and banned in 1945. Thus nobody is still maintaining a membership list and there isn't a bank account to pay membership fees into. Hence there are no nazis of this type left.

2) In the modern meaning of the word, anybody who happens to disagree with you. To say Germans are Nazis thus means no more than, I disagree with Germans.

3) Short form for neo-nazi, I guess this is how it was understood in this case.

4) Saying somebody is a nazi may be shorthand for saying they posess certain traits similar to nazis. Which maybe should be enumerated so the statement can be evaluated and understood. For example they like autobahns and Hugo Boss clothes. Ok, maybe that's a bad example.

5) In the original meaning of the word, as this is something not many people know, nazi was a slur for an Austrian. It is short for Ignaz, which was considered to be a typically Austrian name, and was often shortened to Nazi at the time. So if you were called Ignaz your friends might call you Nazi. In Berlin of the 1920s there were standup comedians who told jokes about a Prussian and an Austrian called Nazi in which Nazi was always the dumb one. Then along came Hitler speaking with his Austrian accent and his enemies saw the verbal parallel between "national socialist" and nazi and started calling him that. It was a slur before it somehow became official. So to say Germans are nazis is to say Germans are Austrians which is somewhat questionable factually, but not actually racist.
I go with #2.

Tom

Can you see any posts by Ace1 or 22yards now? Under the title ‘guest’ obviously.
Nope because they have all been deleted along with all the PMs they’d sent.

A user can request that everything they ever wrote on EF be deleted if they so choose.

BM, you should not write their name, or I think the Mods will edit it because of the right to be forgotten thing. That is what happened when I wrote their name.

You could try the following alternatives-

-Ace of base
-Defrocked ones
-22 Farts

If we ever leave, then our alternative name could be-

Belgian Gum and Talk to you hater

Legislation that isn't in force in Switzerland...
it applies to data subjects that are EU citizens therefore could be considered applicable here.

I don't think so. I mean I am not Sean Connery, really, so deleting my account is not really related to GDPR. Add to that the implied consent of my posts when I click "submit", it becomes even more cloudy.

Right to be forgotten might be more applicable than GDPR but many "leavers" don't actually want to be forgotten. Because otherwise you just leave, no fanfare, just drop off and never visit again.
