There was no need for him to behave like a dick about it though.
A straight answer to a simple question would have sufficed.
It wasn’t an unreasonable question given all the changes that have gone on around here.
I read it as a bit of banter, but you may have read it differently.

Maybe we should have a sticky in the forum support? I could have sworn I saw it there once upon a time.

FMF did apologize for something I found insulting via PM. But I guess I neither appreciate nor understand “banter” when seeking information.

Didn’t seem like banter to me.

It didn’t come across as banter to me either.
It was rather petty in my opinion.

Re: Deleting My Account

I mention this, simply just to add a bit more about the quality of moderating to the discussion. These are examples of poor moderating, that didn't get challenged. No big deal, of course, and no need to criticise the person concerned (though fine to politely criticise the quality of moderating, I would say, if we ever think something is amiss).

You can see 1 of my first posts as a new user on the bottom of this page:
https://www.englishforum.ch/leaving-...goodbye-3.html

You can see how I was treated, both by members and a mod, and I still have no clue what the significance of the slight from the mod about 10 posts means. The hostility and dismissive attitude of the mod led to a few others behaving poorly, and led to me not feeling comfortable posting again to ask what the mod's post meant.

Below is a thread I started asking for help. The mod clearly didn't bother to read my opening post, as their post has little to do with it. It's the same dismissive and hostile attitude. Just to mention again, I don't want to encourage criticism of any person, but, rather, the quality of the moderating.

https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...periences.html

I think it's interesting to regularly reflect on the behaviour of all moderators as they post (mindful we'll all get it wrong every now and then, so can't expect it to always be great), and ask:

Was that an example of good moderating? Did it encourage positive or negative behaviour on the forum? Is it the conduct expected of a moderator here? Would a new joiner feel welcome to the forum being treated that way? Would a person asking for help feel supported by the moderator's conduct?

It is so unusual for them too.
They are usually so upfront and forthcoming about changes happening on the forum.

They must just have forgotten to mention it.

Would have been nice to say goodbye to Editor Bob. I know we've grumbled a lot about some decisions made, but I'm pretty sure there's been a lot of work in the background that we know nothing about.

Best wishes Editor Bob and good luck with whatever your next project is.

I'm sorry - you are upset because a moderator didn't take a significant amount of time out of their day to answer multitudes of questions that could have been better answered by a professional organization there to answer them?

If the things you mentioned in your post were out of line, you will most certainly have a difficult time here - and I'm an advocate for all the newbies who join this place who are given a hard time.

To be honest, in asking about apartment rental, the absolute best advice is to contact the mietverband. They know the definitive response far better than an individual renter’s experience. I think it’s asloca in French speaking CH.

The advice given by the mod in that thread is the best that anyone could have given you really. The Mieterverband are the absolute experts and give up to the minute information which is far preferable to second hand, and possibly out of date, advice from a forum.

I agree although dismissing the last two mods without personally notifying them or providing any reason of their forced resignation triggered a reaction of distrust/ outrage/ and anger at the lack of respect and appreciation for their work and contribution shown. It goes to show how easy it is to rock the boat with one controversial decision despite years of good work. It can happen to any of us.

Wherever EB is now, I hope he has a rewarding and stable job and knows he was much appreciated here.

If it's no big deal why do you make it? You keep complaining how bad and unfair you were treated, supposedly, while you fail to meet your own standards.

Get over it and move on, the world doesn't revolve around you. Nobody owes you anything online.

If you look at a profile it shows time last active, does not work on every account but this is what other members can see on yours.

I'm not fmf but I'll offer some clarity.

To my knowledge, Editor Bob was the only name used by our previous administrator. If he did have another account that still exists, that account doesn't have any more access than you do. You can see on the showgroups page who the mods, spam deputies, and admins are.

EB is no longer with the company that owns EF. I won't speculate as to why because I simply don't know and I don't think it's appropriate. He told us in Mod Zone when his last day would be and left it at that. To me, even if he left the company on good terms it only makes sense to eventually remove that account and get people accustomed to dealing with the new admin.

MichaelHarold is the name of our new admin (obviously as "real" of a name as Editor Bob). He seems like a nice guy, just a bit quiet so far in the open boards.

This post by 3wishes in the other thread makes FMF’s replies to ennui even worse in my opinion since he knew the information was no longer valid.
He certainly didn’t cover himself in glory in that exchange.
