Don’t believe so. (And yes, I was a member under a different Id between 2007 and 2020)

There was always some, if you go back & look at threads it was more rude & less woke, people laughed & had fun.

One of the best threads since deleted was the resale of Nil's Audi, sold for around 800 CHF that 2 years later came back for sale at 2500 CHF. That was a classic.

The forum went very left of centre, all opposing views got deleted, posters warned / banned. Since my arrival this is being unwound, there seem to be more happy people than unhappy from the PM's I receive.

Over the last 18 months people have lost their tolerance for alternative opinions & we need to be more tolerant of others going forward.

July 2021 has about 50% more posts than in 2020 or 2019, similar story for June. Someone piped up 'what about COVID', well July 2020 should have been a huge year but was not.

Of course, it is shocking that people are becoming more woke and more aware of racial prejudice, gender and racial discrimination, and sexual orientation.

EF has always welcomed members from all races, genders & sexual orientation.
We have frequently had complaints how sex shops openly sell toys at motorway service stations & it's not like that at home.

Switzerland is very open with anything to do with sex, drive from Zurich to Bern & you will notice 'red lights' for most of the journey.

As I said earlier it's a tolerance issue.

Oh that. I’m still trying to understand your response there. Please reserve whatever rights you want. It’s more your constant harangue wrt feminism, wokevists (whatever that is) and BLM.
In that case you should be for the undeletion of the two posts in the Dr. thread, it might clarify things.

However, the only time I remember you mentioning the topic of psychological issues, or defect as you call it, in a direct conversation with me is in the Dr. thread, so don't expect me to believe this response.

I've never understood why being against racism, etc. is considered being "woke" in a negative sense.

I don't believe it is or ever has been here.

For info at least 2 members of the mod team have had a Black partner in the last 10 years. I have only met the partner of 1 other mod, so I don't think anyone can play the racist card here or against me.

There is a big difference between being pro equality and not judging a person by its skin - and the crazy wokeness of renaming historic street names, or shaming the Simpsons for Apu, or blaming Astrid Lindgren for having used a form of the n-word in Pippi Langstrumpf at a vey different time. The woke people are mostly spoiled white rich brats who feel insulted - a lot - on behalf of the people who often don't give a damn about names, because they are busy living their lifes.

Also, I more and more think there is no more left and right - but there is populism and pragmatism. And this forum mirrors that. There is a lot of kindergarten stuff going on here, especially in the forum/mods discussions. I like EF the way it is, and I honestly don't care about the "remember when" stuff.

I also am writing this for no real reason and after I had a few beers by the pool

I realized that I didn't feel 100% certain of the actual definition of the term "woke," so I just looked it up. I found a couple definitions, including:

alert to injustice in society, especially racism.

Other definitions just basically equate it with "social awareness."

So do you think that part of the problem on the EF is that people are discussing the news and politics now more than they use to?

No big deal, but 2 mod's posted within that 40 min's, if you check the history.

When mod's are actively posting on a thread with such content on it, and the content remains without comment, it isn't obvious to me how having patience would help (if you fancy taking the time to explain that to me, I'd be grateful, since it isn't clear to me).
My colleagues explained well, Cliini, how it works - maybe newbies don't realize that mod reactions are also to our own discretion, to what extent we are present as mods and as members. Members are smart and know when we are present as mods and when as members, it's obvious. It has been mostly respected and we've had mostly support. As it was said - not only we don't immediately receive the reports, but also often assume one of us will get it. And sometimes there is no reaction, and sometimes there are mods around or we take the decision to be members for the next hour or three.

The admin rule always was - mod as you can.

I understand that you may see this voluntary service differently or would like a different kind of supervision or tighter recall. I understand you. But the social platforms that have policed or censored more strictly have not experienced improvement in online behavior. So while I see your side of frustration, pls realize that we are a balancing act, live. We don't want to kill it, either, in the process.

Seeing that reported posts are NOT shown on EF but a separate email account, it is normal that it takes a while as not everyone checks that email every 30 minutes.

Also see what 3wishes already said.
Sometimes friends ping me via other means, they know we get reports with a delay.

And - if there is something really urgent, members holler in actual posts.

Totally.

But.

You can't compare. Social media was a different world. People are using it differently and for a different reason than then. It is like comparing Atari and PS5. I had a private mailing lists long before that and it was wild. Savage. These open convos are awesome - democratic, open and fun.

Maybe there is more entitlement now.

I expect the user experience and performance will change the next 10 years , mature. It will be chill in 10 years. People will treat ideas with a grain of salt, offer more generosity and hopefully pettiness will go away. And repeated flouncing. And super drama.

Nope. Not this toxic kind, anyway. People would have arguments for sure, but not this borderline obsessive bickering or dishing out with very little ability to take it.

Oh I agree, it’s always Tom’s fault

To answer your question pancakes (solely from my point of view), yes people were exactly the same 10 years ago. We were all yakking and complaining and we were also kind and helpful, just like now.

The difference I see is due to Covid. It really has underlined harsh reality and has erased the maybes and inbetweens.
People are tired. They’ve had trying times, with loss of dreams and jobs and tragically loved ones.
Some cry and fold, others lash out.

As long as we realize this about ourselves and each other maybe we can have more patience and understanding.

I really miss many who have left or no longer write.
Hope they are well and that they’ll return one day.

EF is a maison bleu….

C'est une maison bleue
Adossée à la colline
On y vient à pied
On ne frappe pas
Ceux qui vivent là
Ont jeté la clé

On se retrouve ensemble
Après des années de route
Et on vient s'asseoir
Autour du repas
Tout le monde est là
À cinq heures du soir

Un autre arrivera
Pour nous dire des nouvelles
D'un qui reviendra
Dans un an ou deux
Puisqu'il est heureux
On s'endormira

People choose to get offended because being offended is in vogue.

I think the pejorative use of woke and woketivism is reflected very well in the urban dictionary's definiton. The problem isn't awareness, but the attempt to force one's own standards and beliefs onto others and assuming a role without authorisation that's simply far too big for the speaker.

WRT claims of racism, a disparage outcome is almost automatically called racist nowadays and therefore the result of oppression. The Democrat's identity politics plays a big role in this, with its assumption that an immutable characteristic like skin color determines one's political position and many other aspects of the person. Hence Biden's "you're not black if you don't vote Democrat". The idea of personal responsibilty doesn't even enter the picture - something like "<supposedly oppressed group> are a victim of white oppression, thus they can't be held accountable for any aspect of the outcome, including their crimes and how they raise their children" is the result.

The various sex toy superstores have a much better selection of state of the art offers; I just never figured out how to ensure the frequency used by the remote controls does not clash with my neighbours so as to avoid unexpected breathtaking moments

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how much conscious control people really have over what offends them. I guess I find it difficult to judge or gauge what someone has the right to be offended by and what someone doesn't. I guess I also don't really feel that I have the right to tell someone else that they don't have the right to feel offended.

I'll try to think of a couple analogies...

A Chinese girl on Facebook is called a "stupid ch*nk" by someone. Does she have the right to be offended and to express that she is offended? Even if the person who said that to her tells her she's being too sensitive and is offended too easily?

A white guy in the grocery store calls a little black girl a "n***er." Does the girl's mother have the right to be offended and/or to express that she is offended?

Again, I'm just trying to understand when exactly someone has the right to feel offended. Because it doesn't really make sense to me for someone else to gauge that, I guess.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and I created a thread about my experience. My Id was different, then (but it’s listed as guest) I just read through it to remind myself how really supportive people here can be. Lots of people who’ve left - look at all the ‘guest” ids. Lots of names we don’t see any more.

If you search on breast cancer it’s the thread with about 200 replies. So if you ask me how people were compared to now, I think it’s very different.
